I've been on Bactrim for 2 weeks. I noticed over the weekend that my nose seemed very dry and irritated. So I go on the web to see if it might be a side effect and I notice info about Stevens Johnsom, which you can get from reaction to sulfa drugs.

I'm alittle concerned, I called mt LLMD but thery're not in till 9:00.

Any info?

It's not uncommon to have an allergic reaction to Bactrim (the sufla component). However, I'd speak with your LLMD about it because an irriated nose sounds mild - but I'm not a doctor. For me, I'd taken one short round of Bactrim for something unrelated to Lyme and I had no problems with it. Then a few months later my LLMD prescribed it for Bartonella and after a few days I developed bad sores in my mouth and just felt this undescribable 'ill' feeling. I stopped taking it and felt better. I think it was a mild allergic reaction that just slowly developed. Trust your instincts but also don't let others reactions scare you too much. You might be fine.

I took Septra (sulfa) a few times and then on the fourth or fifth round of it I got what looked like second degree burns in my mouth. It was horrible.

I am fairly sure it was the beginning of a Stevens Johnson reaction which runs in my family. My half brother had one so badly that his entire body including internally was burning.

It could be the start of one but like Scottie said would be a very mild start. Don't play around with it though. Definitely talk to your MD about it.

Hope it resolves soon!
