Ever have major body temperature regulation problems? Seems like whenever I take my temp., it's different digits. However, it is usually low, like in the 97.? range(sometimes lower, though). I realize that the low body temp. for lymies has been established here as a symptom, but what about constant fluctuations in temp.. like, your body can't seem to keep a steady adjustment?
My body temp seems to fluctuate greatly with its environments tmp.. not as slightly as it normally should.. more noticably. Like, if my environment is hot, I'm overheated too.. I'll feel feverish instead of sweating it out, like I should.
And, when my environment is cold, or even cool, I feel like an iceburge!, and am unable to get warm. My feet and hands feel like I've held them in the freezer for a couple of hours. My hands are constantly between my leggs in the winter, for warmth. I sware, as soon as I remove them from there, they are freezing again. My nose is always cold too.
Drives me nutz!!!

My temp usually run about 96.7 little normal, but I know what you mean when you say your body doesnt adjust to like the enviromental temp. In the summer if it was hot I was dripping in sweat and unable to cool down. Now that winter is here I cant get warm no matter what i do,it almost as my body isnt connected with the air around me. I know it sound weird....

The autonomic nervous system is often dysregulated in lyme patients. This affects all of those functions that are automatically controlled like blood pressure, temp etc..
The other thing is that some of us seem to have problems with sicca/sjogrens which means we may not be able to control our body temp as well because we don't sweat normally.
I have the temp control and blood pressure problem along with sicca/sjogrens. Terry

doesn't sound weird to me, at all. Like you, in the summer, I do plenty of sweating, but can't cool down. I just can NEVER get comfortable.. always too cold or too hot, never just right, NEVER.
I'm sure my poor family must get tired of hearing me complain about how cold I am.. or in the summer, how hot I am. I get tired of hearing myself complain. Most of all, I get tired of feeling uncomfortable and ill.
Sorry to hear you have the same problem, it's simply awful.

Cortisol (from the adrenal glands) levels fluctuate during the day to meet certain demands. This impacts the signals sent between the hypothalamus (body temp.) and pituitary and adrenal glands.
This is called the HPA axis.
Our glands sorta "talk" to one another (simplified explanation).
This drop in body temperature is a protective mechanism. We don't need as much oxygen to survive when we are "colder".
Here's what the hypothalamus does:
The hypothalamus regulates body temperature, blood pressure, heartbeat, metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, and sugar levels in the blood.
Through direct attachment to the pituitary gland, the hypothalamus also meters secretions controlling water balance and milk production in the female.
The role of the hypothalamus in awareness of pleasure and pain has been well established in the laboratory.
It is thought to be involved in the expression of emotions, such as fear and rage, and in sexual behaviors. Despite its numerous vital functions, the hypothalamus in humans accounts for only 1/300 of total brain weight, and is about the size of an almond.
Structurally, it is joined to the thalamus; the two work together to monitor the sleep-wake cycle.

I have major body temperature issues too...I am always cold, which sucks. When I feel hot like so HOT my temperature is actually normal like 98.6. My temperature has been going down since I started treatment. I'm at 96.8,kinda funny since I'm deslexic.
I also have other things going on with my fingers and toes. Sometimes some of them go freezing cold while others stay normal but feel like they are burning.
When my symptoms are worse I have to assume it's because i am herxing and killing these stupid bugs!

I too have temp problems and mostly it is being too hot all the time, even in the winter, however, when I do get cold - it takes a long time to warm up. Mostly my hands and feet.
My body temp varies between 96.3 and 97.8
I am wondering about all of you who say you can't/don't sweat, have you always been like that or is it since you got sick.
All my life I have been unable to sweat. If I am sitting with people in a sauna, they are all dripping around me and I am turning red and feeling very uncomfortable.
Thanks,
Jeannie
