Believe it or not I was diagnosed with trench mouth..............

I have been a person always proud of my teeth..don;t know how it happened.......

The periodontist told me it is a gramnegative bacteria and prescribed amoxy.......

I'm wondering ,since finish the amoxy and feel again gum discomfort,if I should ask him for a saliva culture?.......

I am sorry you have to deal with this on top of everything else, Lymeblue.

Yes, I would ask for a culture.

Is rinsing with peroxide recommended?

Rinsing with hydrogen peroxide is excellent. Soaking your toothbrush in it between brushings is a good idea as well.

It's gentle and effective. Just don't swallow it. It can be hard on the stomach.

But just wondering too how many people with lyme have had this experience or diagnosis....

I mean my periodontist doesn't look worry or something....I don't even know if I should get scared......I just don't want to loose my teeth!!!!

And when reading literature it says it is because of poor higyene......how come!!!
I think it is about immune defficiency issues instead....

trench mouth is the ulcerative form of the overgrowth of normal mouth flora.
called ANUG acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis.

most common cause is major stress
usually found college students at finals time.

the best treatment is good thourough cleaning
of the teeth , and tetracycline rinses.
oral abx is also helpful.
i have found tetracylcine rinses work the best.

it tends to dissipate in 10-30 days but can be very long term if the body is
debilitated.

some viral components may be present due to
the recurance with stress.
extra , extra hygiene is necessary to control bacteria.

DOCDAVE!!!!!!!I really love you......
thanks for your suggestion.....right on time of desperation.....

Now I know how to "approach" the periodontist you might even know him , BTW he is in Royal P B area...

But shouldn't the Periodontist prescribe more abx.....I mean after only ten days on amoxy and still with symptoms..even the"strange grey line" in my gum line have not erased 100% and still having the sensation of some slight loose teeth...

For now he told me to use Perio Guard. I'm seeing him next tuesday....He did a thorough "root cleaning" on a couple of front lower teeth the last time.

One more time thanks for you r opinion....I just hope this don't become chronic in my mouth....

My lyme is under control...

don't know many dentits here.
more abx should be used.
i always liked clidamycin 150 tid.
i think the tetracycline rinse, although old really helps.
may have to take tetra capsule and add to water and swish around mouth for 2-4 minutes 3 times a day.

peridex will probably also help.
it actually was the old phisohex they took of the market for doctors to wash hands because
too strong.

it kills bacteria in gums very well and most
periodontists use it.

Well, reading on lymenet is like going to medical school of sorts! just read up on trenchmouth. doesn't sound fun...

I don't know if this info would help. Four days into drinking the Ultra mangosteen juice, my gums stopped bleeding and they haven't bled since. And they actually look pink and healthy. This after having bled for years.

If you try the juice(healthfood stores/online), drink lots of water with it, and start with a little bit. It can be a strong detoxer.

Hey Lymeblue,

I never had trench mouth but while I was pregnant with my daughter I had horrible gingivitis. I never left home without my tube on Numbit.

The problem I have had recently is recurring bouts of thrush.

When I was taking Microbiology in college a couple of years ago, we did a experiment in lab on bacteria in the mouth.

We all did oral swabs and cultured the bacteria.

The lesson was basically about how everyone has different levels of 'normal flora'. There is no norm, everyone's level was differnt despite of personal hygeine.

Just to make you feel better.

they really oughta change the name of this condition. sorry you have to deal with it.

you might consider oil pulling. this old therapy can do wonders for your mouth and your body as it draws bacteria and other toxins into the oil, plus it is simple and inexpensive to do. the 'pulling' or 'swishing' is followed by
peroxide/baking soda/toothpaste brushing because it draws out bacteria.
i've done it every day for at least a year and probably will never stop.

be sure to read the description by the doctor who came up with the concept.

I've also had gingivitis, so bad at times my dentist compared it to a chemical burn. The only thing I can do is brush with warm water, no toothpaste, and rinse with warm salt water. It's of interest to note that this is also a spirochetal disease.

Keep an eye on your blood sugar level as well as your pancreatic enzymes.

There is a strong link between the health of our gums and pancreatitis.

(Trivia: dogs live much longer if they have all their teeth pulled or if they have periodic cleanings of their teeth.)

If you EVER get pancreatitis...get a mammogram...this can be an early warning sign.

It was for my sister-in-law.

She had the beginning of breast cancer. It was caught in time...thanks to Docs who said, "When you get home (she was on vacation in St. Petersburg and had non-alcohol related pancreatitis), be sure to get a mammogram."

For once...docs really on top of things!
