Has it helped?

Not sure where I can get it as I am a 51 year old woman living in the country. I don't have any sources, so be it.

But I would like to learn if it does help with our pain and getting back just a little bit of our loss of life?

Docs give me RX drugs to help my pain and fatigue constantly.....but nothing helps.

I'd just like to learn your impressions? Does it make you better? Or does it make you not care about the pain?

Thanks!

I know this isn't helpful, because I haven't used it myself. I'm only 23, and no matter how helpful it could be I can't put any future employment (especially in the TLA sector) at risk.

However, several years ago my uncle was diagnosed with terminal cancer. They gave him 6 months to live. He's always smoked a little pot, going back to the 60's (so my mother tells me), but he really started to get high quality cannabis after he got sick. Its now 7 years later and his cancer has STOPPED metastasis. He smokes pot, takes oxycontin, and eats vanilla ice cream. Somehow, its keeping him alive and relatively healthy. He goes hunting every couple of weeks, on vacation etc...

I mention this because, as a whole, much of the information about cannabis out there is a lie, and many of its good functions are undocumented because of political stigma.

I can't promise its a huge pain reliever. I know it has some pain reliving effects in that it just makes you feel better, but if you are taking narcotic pain relievers they are probably a better source of pure pain relief. I really have no clue if it fights fatigue. Some people get a buzz from it and feel like they have more energy (A friend of mine swears it helps him to be a more effective computer programmer), others it makes them more relaxed. Since our bodies aren't normal, it will be hard to tell what the effect will be.

Oh, and the very best way to use it is not to smoke it at all, but to buy a vaporizer. Vaporized marijuana has no tar or chemicals! Google marijuana vaporizer and I'm sure you can find one. They are somewhat expensive. If you can't afford it, the next best thing to do is smoke it from a water pipe/bong/hookah. The cooler smoke precipitates out some impurities and apparently goes down easier.

I can't help you with supply, except in saying that it may be worthwhile to grow it organically yourself, if you have the inclination. If not, find a "head shop", which is basically a place that sells bongs and ask around. Its very important to get high quality, pure marijuana for the health benefits (THC). Also, you could look into hashish and hash oil for greater purity and concentration.

Thank you...but I'm thinking it might just be one more thing that doesn't work and confuses my symptoms.

I was more curious to see if anyone thought it would help?

I was actually thinking of asking my doc about medical mj....not sure if it's available in PA. But it doesn't hurt to ask, right? [Smile]

Actually using pot to mask the pain will make it only go away temporarily... It will soon pop up somewhere else.

this is known as 'reeferred pain', and it will make you want pizza too...

It just makes me sleepy but if you want to use it there should be no legal constraints...

Ahhhh yes the 60's.
I remember them well, I think. Just kidding!!
I did behave myself when it came to drugs.

Blackstone, Are you sure you're not 53 instead of 23?
I almost have to question you because of the head shop remark.

I remember the head shops. They were weird, with their incense burning, the Beatles song #9 playing in the background, the black lights and the very mellow people that worked there,(I think that was a requirement).I can almost smell the pot in the air.

If you were listening to The Beatles #9, you had to be smoking something other than cigarettes.

I was 16 / 17 years old when I was first exposed to all that craziness. It was kinda funny to watch back then, but look where all that led. Pot was then and is now kids stuff compared to what's going on in the world now.
Thanks for the laugh and
Thanks for the memories.

Interesting post concerning the cancer patient. MJ contains cannabinoids which do fight against cancer.
Just found this. wow!
* A 1994 study, which documented that THC may protect against malignant cancers, and which was buried by the US government. The $2 million study, funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, sought to show that large doses of THC produced cancer in rats. Instead, researchers found that massive doses of THC had a positive effect, actually slowing the growth of stomach cancers. The rats given THC lived longer than their non-exposed counterparts.

As to pain I no longer NEED it like I once did but it did work very well for my fibromyalgia. I also would get on a "bad trip" due mainly I believe to the fact I was so da** miserable.

What worked best was when I had an hour of free time I'd smoke (with the stuff out now just one hit is needed) and meditate. After the hour the bad buzz was gone and the pain much tolerable.

Theres a TV host with MS who is kinda the spokesman on it. I forgot his name. Thats the bad part. Cannabis does seam to affect the memory (which mine was already bad) and tends to make folks lazy and hungry for twinkies. A really bad combo.

I have a friend with MS who feels it helps TREMENDOUSLY with her pain . Her neurologist says many of his patients swear by it ( he is a VERY RESPECTED MS specialist ) . I heard him say this firsthand .

I have never tried it , but I do believe it
substantially helps some people with pain , and wish it were available for those who suffer .

i understand that many people don't use pot in their diseases because of 'side effect' called psychoactive high, which is problem for them because they do not enjoy it. Why some pople enjoy it and some do not ? This always puzzled me.

it was the only thing that helped with my pain, sleep, and nausea in the beginning...but it started making the neuro/brain/anxiety/paranoia issues MUCH worse (never a side effect for me pre-lyme)...if it didnt affect my brain symptoms so negatively, i would try it again in a heartbeat for pain and sleep. but we're all different, I'm sure some with neurolyme would find it calming and helpful.

I did read studies that say it can prevent seizures and help many with neurological conditions, but i think mainly with tremors, spasms, pain, etc.

if you are seriously considering it, another thing to be aware of is that, like most crops, marijuana can be highly contaminated and toxic dependant on how/where it's grown. mold spores are a concern too. personally, being sick and toxic anough already, I wouldnt touch it unless I had access to the highest quality.

spooky, my pain is unrelenting and moves from one body part to another, sometimes daily, sometimes every few days.

My legs are so weak and they hurt when I try to walk or sit. My lower back is usually in spasm (think knife digging in). My right ankle wakes me up at night with stabbing pain.

My knees get a sharp stab at no certain time during the day...it just happens if I'm standing or trying to walk.

My upper back is so tense, I fear I may never be able to stand up straight again. [Frown]

My neck is painful, I think it's the muscles but it might be the vertabrae....I can't tell.

I get lots of nerve pain throughout my body daily and at night. I even take ambien to help me sleep, but I wake up in pain several times a night.

Weirdest thing is....the pain keeps moving so even by going to a pain specialist, he told me he couldn't help me. He only does nerve blocks for specific areas.

He told me if he did this for me, he would end up paralyizing me! [Eek!] (He has also referred s few of his other patients to me that he can't help due to their lyme illness).

It's all over, daily with severe weakness........plus the brain fog and zapping brain symptoms.

Sorry if this is too much! Thanks so much for asking. [Smile]

All I know is that Montel Williams swears by it for his MS. He says it is the only thing that works for him.

If I could do it legally, I would grow it in my garden and just give it away to people who needed it.

Bite Me, DEA and Big Pharma.

Tothepoorhoouse,
Have you tried elavil for the nerve pain? It blocked mine and I could then cope with the rest for years.

Also, I read where someone used sodium bicarb for weakness for ms. Alkaselzer helps me through herx.

I also kept chocolate in fridge for pain i couldn't get rid of. It always helped or blocked it.

Sometimes, for some reason benadryl helped too and so did primatine mist inhaler which has epinephrine.

I used hot water bottle for years when I went to bed under my lower sacrum. For some reason this would take away all muscle spasms in arms and legs and I would fall asleep within hour.

I don't have to do these much anymore and for some reason I focus on what's not better.

I did home remedy that was very dangerous because I became desperate. My biggest and worst pain went away with that treatment.

I don't know if you have tried any of these and I don't know if they will work for you. But, this is how I coped for years with constant pain.

Narcotics never touched my pain. Just made me high with pain.

After first year, I knew it wasn't going anywhere soon, so I refused all narcotics.

I hope you find relief from your pain soon with strength to cope.
