Hi everyone,

Does anyone ever bad headaches with this? For the last few days I have had a bad cough but I went and saw my Dr and he said it was just from drainage from my throat and gave me zithromax for it. Tonight I have the worse headache( had it before I started on zithromax)( headache started about 3 hours ago ) Iy hurts on the backside of my head behind my ear and it really hurts when I bend over or I start coughing? I took 2 advil and it did nothing for the headache. Does any one have any clue on what this could be? I had kinda of a hectic day and was wondering if it could be tension? My son 15 yr old son is autistic and has not been doing good lately( throwing fits and such) and was wondering if the headaches could be tension or lymes related? It seems if it was stress that Advil would have handled it? I have no idea on what could be causing it.

ally,

i have suffered from terrible headaches alot of times they are migraines though, for the past 15 years, my son, who was born with lyme also suffers from them, he got his first "sick headache" as he calls them when he was 21/2 he is now 15,

they can literally put you in bed for a few days, the one thing we find works best on our headaches is excedrine, and sometimes like when you have the drainage, try the excedrine sinus, we keep this in the car and the house.

however, because there is caffiene in this product, we always start with one pill, and if not any better in an hour or so, take another,

otherwise it can be really hard on your stomach, and make you shake. we do not have this problem unless we take the 2 recommended, at once.

sure hope this helps, i am sending good thoughts your way, an ice pack can sometimes be a great help also. feel better!

Could be a sinus infection. There's been a nasty bug going around this winter.

Advil does nothing for stress, btw.

Hope things settle down soon for you and that you can get to an LLMD for a diagnosis.

HUGS! [group hug]

Hi Ally.

Did you get testing done, or get hooked up with an LLMD? I'm recalling your earlier posts.. I hope so.

Headaches can be a big feature of lyme AND babesia.

I have these too; improved since repeated babesia dx and treatment but still very hurtful at times.

You're newly in lyme treatment? That can bring them on (in the form of herxing).

Here's an old thread aptly titled 'Headaches from Hell.' Perhaps some relief will be found there. Also, know that it's not uncommon while you're early in treatment.

Hang in there.

Hi allysp,

I had really bad headaches for along time with lyme. They arn't so bad anymore. If the headache got worse with the zithro then I would guess a herx on top of a sinus infection, it could be both.

I am sorry to hear about your son. There is a lyme/autisum group that has alot of good info. I don't have it off hand but I will get it for you.

Plus I was just having a discussion with my LLMD yesturday about autisum. And he said that they are finding that the cause is a combination of lyme and heavy metal toxicity. You may want to look into it if you haven't allready.

My nephew was autistic and is no longer.

Good luck,
Lisi

Try claritan D and see if the sinuses drain. If you still have headaches, then it may be lyme related.

Hi!
Sorry your head hurts so much! I do believe it could be lyme, babesia or bartonella related.

I would get in touch with a llmd! If you don't have one, this board is the place to find one!

My daughter had severe headache pain constantly for about one year before being diagnosed with lyme and other tick borne illnesses. None of the specialists we went to nor any of the migraine or pain meds they prescribed made much difference. Even hospital visits and ER visits didn't give relief. Once she was diagnosed with LOW CSF pressure! WRONG!

I have heard many people on this board (and at the llmd's office) have headache problems. The lyme and especially the other TBI treatments were the only thing that helped!

The best my daughter's head has felt in the last year was after her llmd started her on several supplements and B12 shots. He also prescribed neurontin and flexeril.

Right now she is taking malerone for babesia and guess what? the headaches are bad again! From what others have told us, I do believe relief is in sight though!

You are actually right about the stress factor. We have found that too much stress and overdoing it physically and mentally brings on the worse headaches! Not getting enough sleep is another important factor! Hard to sleep when you are in severe pain, so if that's a problem ask the llmd for help in that dept also!

Best Wishes!

Hi everyone

I woke up this morning and still have that bad headache. It's right behind my left ear on the lower left side. I have to hold my head when I cough or bend over. About a week ago I started off sneezing and had a terrible cough. Now it seems as though it settled in my head. My Dr won't be able to see me for a few days and they won't call me in anything until they see me. I'm starting to wonder if it's sinus pressure because this all started over me having this bad cough( thanks to my hubby) LOL Advil is not kicking in for me so I'm wondering if Musenex( guess I spelled it right ) would help it? I did take my magnnesium today and I took a flexerl last night. Anybody have any ideas on how to break up that sinus pressure? I wished they had sudafed but it's not the same anymore. The stuff they make sudafed with now can cause strokes and I'm not willing to take any chances right now. Thanks for those helpful links, I put them on my favorites for future use. Hugs to all!!!!!!!!

That is how my son started with lyme and continues after a year with the headaches. He is now on Bicillin shots and we are starting to see a little improvement with the headaches.

Good Luck

Yes, it could be from lyme, but I had these same symptoms this Christmas. It was a sinus infection.

Yes, mucinex may help until you can get in to see a dr. Could you go to an Urgent Care? That's what I had to do since I was traveling at the time.

I was VERY thankful that I insisted on going to one!

Headaches are MORE OFTEN Babesiosis than Lyme btw-
you can do an artemisia challenge for Babs since that is over-the-counter- and you never know, cerebral Babes can present as autism and is transmitted congenitally-

A case of transfusion-associated neonatal babesiosis is presented. Jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, anemia and conjugated hyperbilirubinemia developed in this preterm infant. The diagnosis was eventually made by blood smear, serology and polymerase chain reaction. The patient was treated with clindamycin and quinine and made a favorable recovery. Of neonatal babesiosis reported in the literature, 9 other cases are reviewed, including 6 that were transfusion-associated, 2 congenital and 2 tick transmitted.

I had sinus headaches before and severe enough to hold my head when I cough but you would think if it was sinus that the zpac would have cleared it up by now. My head isn't hurting when Im just sitting there or watching tv but it hurts when I bend forward or cough. It really doesnt hurt when i move it side to side. Its pretty weird. Do you think a cortisone shot would help? I h ad one about 3 weeks ago for my back. My friend thinks it could be the muscles in my head hurting since I have muscle pain off and on. I do have alot of drainage now from my throat but Im clueless if it has caused my head to hurt like this. Thanks to all of you for giving advice. You guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs to ya

Hi,
I had that horrible head and chest cold. Could not sleep because of constant coughing. Felt like I would have a stroke because of head congestion when I would cough, even had brain pains each time.

I could not reach llmd, and md appt. would have taken days. So I asked pharmacist which of zithro or septra would be of benefit, if bacterial. (have both for tbd)

He said zithro.

Took it for a week, and it did nothing.

Then I saw chiro, ND.

She did some microcurrent on skull and at the same time loosened up lymph and muscles that helped the brain to drain. Next day, my head felt normal.

Still had the cough. She had muscle tested that septra would be better. So, my septra pulse was scheduled, and did it. Cough was enormously better within a few days, and I could get some much needed sleep.

So what worked for me was:

chiro/nd intervention
septra

I am still amazed at what a chiro/nd can do! I will see her for a hangnail at this point, and she could fix it.

Cortisone shots are not recommended when you have Lyme, because they suppress the immune system and allow the infection to take a stronger hold.

If it is muscular, you can maybe figure it out by pressing the muscles in your neck, lower head and shoulder and see if anyplace refers pain to your head.

Chiro, massage or physical therapy could help reduce that pain if it is muscular. Also, acupuncture might help.

The dr I saw said Zith was NOT working for this bug/infection. I had already taken several days of Zith before I saw her....she was right!!

Also, she offered me a cortisone shot, which I knew would help, but I told her I couldn't because I had chronic Lyme disease.

She COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD that!! Can you believe it!!!!??? She said, "Yeah, you'd feel great for a few days, then you would get worse."

I said EXACTLY!!!

PS....She gave me a very heavy duty dose of Augmentin and some really great decongestant that even those of us with tachycardia can handle!

Hi everyone

The headache is still the same. Throbbing when I cough or laugh or bend forward. I went to the store and bought Tylenol sinus and it hasn't help either. I'm getting ready to take 3 advil to see if that helps. I have a refill on Cipro I'm thinking of going to Walgreens to get it filled and see if that helps it. Since I already took my zith today , would I have to wait and start the Cipro tomorrow or would it hurt to start it tonight? I'm so sick of this headache. It's starting to make my neck hurt too when I cough and my left eye is twitching along with it. I'm not running any fever and my blood pressure is great, just this annoying headache which all started after getting that bad cold.

Have you contacted your pcp or llmd yet?

Might be a good thing to do, since they may be able to rx something else.

MSG will give most people a headache.

Check out the msgmyth.com for other names of ingredients that have msg such as "modified food starch".

I have had some awlful headaches.

Now I relate these headaches to toxin load in the body. When my body can't get rid of the toxins fast enough I get a headache.

So I eat organic food, drink distilled water, takes herbs to detox and use reflexology, Healing at you finger tips by Mildred Carter.

A chiropractor can also check out a neck. A few misplaced vertibre can cause a headache.

Hi everyone

I just got back from seeing my Dr and he thinks the headache is from me coughing so much. He made me rest my chin to see how far I could bring it down and he made me move it side to side. He came to the conclusion after listening to me cough that its muscular thats causing the pain. he told me to keep taking the zpack and he gave me a script for tussanex for the coughing. He thinks if I control the coughing, the headache should go away. I am also using a nasal spray to clean out my sinuses. I guess if I don't feel any better by Monday of next week, then I will go back and see the Dr again. Hugs to all of you

Oh, I also forgot to mention that as soon as I get my income tax check in the mail, I will go see a LLMD( guess I said it right ) and will have all of the test ran on me to see if I have lymes. The blood test are $200 and we won't have the extra until after we get our tax money back in a few weeks. In the meantime, I will just do the best with what I have and keep on coming to you guys for advice:)))))))))

hugs

Good job, Ally!! [Smile] I hope you feel better VERY soon!!!

When you get ready to put out the money on testing, PLEASE make sure you use Igenex Labs. Other labs are pretty worthless for Lyme testing.

There is another lab, MDL, that is pretty reliable.

I got vicious migraines when I started Plaquenil. My daughter gets terrible headaches off and on while taking her meds: zithro definitely made her so ill with nasty nasty headaches & nothing helped & they did last for days; Minocin gave her headaches at first and now she no longer gets them. When she pulses in her Tindamax ... yup, she gets the headache.

She is being such a good sport - she had such vicious headache before treatment, so she says she is used to being in pain: sad to have one's child say this, having her be in pain most of her life.

I also have an autistic son: raised both my kids as a single parent while becoming more & more ill from undiagnosed Lyme. Very hard to tell what is stress and what is Lyme and what is true illness! The stress never ends with autism in the house; my daughter is diagnosed ADHD. Both kids have had Lyme. We have had fun times in this household!! You are not alone!

Hi everyone

Just wanted to tell you guys how awesome you are. I know no matter how bad I feel, I just come in here and you guys make it all better. I think Im going to stop with the zpac, it does nothing for me. I went to CVS today and bought Sudafed( the original stuff). YOu have to ask for it because its behind the counter. I might be back on posting about a fast heart rate from the sudafed but I just can't stand this headache anymore so I had to make a choice. I'm even thinking about buying Aleve for the pain. Couldn't hurt at this point, I've tried everything else. Hugs to all
