My health insurance is about to change.

The good news is I get a choice between Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield (I'm not sure but I think this might only exist in NY) and Oxford.

I want to make sure I pick one that will be more likely to cover the antibiotics.

Thankyou for any input.

Don't know anything about Oxford, but Empire does not have a good lyme record. Been sued. If interested in details, you might do archive search, look at legal resources section, maybe google empire +lyme.

Supposedly there are some good ins cos for lyme but they must be scarce, since a lot of lymies have trouble.

I switched from Horizon BCBS HMO mid year to Oxford Liberty Plan PPO b/c of the situation with no "in-network" llmds. I couldn't even submit claims to them to be reimbursed. I currently pay about $1100/month for Oxford. Alot more than BCBS, but hopefully I will gain something by being reimbursed 80% from llmd visits.

Also, I had switched to Oxford b/c they used Quest instead of Lab Corp...well no longer..they now only use Lab Corp. Not that either of these two are good for much, but our llmd uses Quest for all non-lyme related labs. So now I have to summit those and only get 80% back, or ask to take the script to Lab Corp, which I am sure is ok with them.

No, not at all. My daughter has been on Mepron since June. I was worried about them paying, but I have not had any trouble. She has also beeen on Zithromax since Feb 06. Just added Flagyl too. All paid for except for the $15.00 co-pay/$7.00 on generics.

I don't have any experience with IV treatment/reimbursements.

So far so good...hope it stays that way!!!

Well, it sounds like Oxford is the way to go. It also is the one that doesn't require any payroll deduction. BCBS was going to be $27 a week!
Thanks alot! Sue

Blue cross plans are not the same around the country. So, you have to know which ones you are talking about. I was speaking specifically about Empire, since that is the one you asked about. BX in states without a lot of lyme cases might even pay for IV, but in endemic states with a lot of cases, they have become much more restrictive.
