I have terrible vertigo, burning neck pain, stiff neck, and tingling and burning sensations in my extremities. This on top if headaches, eye pressure and joint pain. My LLMD is refusing to give me IV even though this has been going on for about 8 months now (treated with orals for the last 5 months). I have had lyme for years but only diagnosed about 5 months ago. He thinks orals will do the trick and he likes Bicillan shots which I havent started yet. Anyone think these neuro symptoms will go away without the use of IV. I am scared i am being mismanaged by one of the supposedly "best" doctors.

IV has huge risks- mainly DEATH! ANy LLMD worth their salt will give orals AND IM a go before IV!!

Sounds like you have a good doc!!!

I had 9 months IV Rocephin which saved my life- I am VERY pro-IV- when it is warranted- I had been on roals for a full year with no chnage- and had begun to go into full-fledged dementia!!!
Could not rememebr my toddlers name!!!

IV can have infected lines- sepsis- and people DO DIE of it. Any good LLMD will try orals/IM pre IV!!~ Really.

That said, you sound so Lymey- and that is SO NOT FUN. I am sorry. I hope you become responsive to meds and that orals or IM work for you- and if they don;t- then I hope you get IV and then that that works for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I do think your doc sounds like he/she is doing the right thing!!!! I kow it sucks to be so sick- and you sound sick sick sick!!! I hope you get well well WELL soon*)!!!!!!!!!!!
Best wishes,
Sarah

Hi there - i too have all these symptoms so know how u feel

my LLMD doesnt feel i need IV either - he thinks its more toxic overload thats causing all the neuro sx so just got to keep going with the orals & work on detoxing

i'm guessing u could have the same LLMD as me - DR H in NY? so he's taking the same approach with us all.

I really hope u get rid of all those pains as i hope i do too one day [Smile]

i have mostly neuro symptoms, have had for almost 5 years.

my llmd is widely recognized as one of the best of the best, who has been working with lyme pts for a very long time.

in his opinion, many neuro cases can in fact be treated with oral abx. his and other llmd's experience contradicted the conventional wisdom that IV's were the only tx option for neurological cases.

in high enough doses, both amox and mino can cross the brain barrier and knock down Bb bacteria.

but orals don't work for everyone. they're not for me. 8 months into tx, with the exception of a few weeks feeling good that did not hold, I have not made progress, and IV's are next.

i think the best llmd's are those that are open minded enough to be willing to reach for every weapon in the arsenal depending on your individual progress.

me, i'm done with pistols and look forward to the IV Bomb.

peace- dilly
