has anyone had problems with their kidneys? i have had to stop all meds, herbs, vitamins, etc.
i am having major pain in my back from mid to lower back, laying down only exasperates the problem. my skin is itchy, i have a major headache, vision is blurred, urine is clear, all in all, don't feel well.
i have to go back to primary for this as the llmd cut me loose and said go back to him. so here goes. i have an appt on monday at 10:30.
so my questions are:
1. can kidneys heal themselves?
2. can all theses herbs/vitamins, etc., damage the kidneys?
i guess i'm really scared right now. i don't think this is something i want to mess with.
is there anything you can think of to do until monday?

Sorry you have this problem.. . I can't help much, just bumping the post so that maybe someone could.
I would add plenty of stuff to cleanse, and lower killers, but I'm only a herb user...
I had kidney pains sometimes but not too serious as you describe. It could be toxin load??
Anyway, I wouldn't add nettle, I think it makes my kidneys work even more and when they're stressed, I find this is no good thing...
Hope someone will come with some ideas for you. Selma

Geniveve,
Have your kidney function tests actually come back as abnormal or is the diagnosis based on your symptoms?
Your kidney function tests will look at Creatine and BUN. If those are elevated, then you would probably have to lower the dosage or or go off antibiotics for awhile.
My dad, who had a pre-existing kidney insufficiency problem, was bitten and got Lyme last summer (versus me years ago).
He had to go on and off antibiotics depending on his Creatinine and BUN levels. Flagyl in particular seemed the hardest on his kidneys. Doxy was OK. Zith was kind of hard but not as bad as Flagyl. This was in his case, I'm not saying it's the same for everyone.
But his LLMDs selected antibiotics based upon which ones are metabolized more through the liver than through the kidneys. Your doctor could do the same - try to pick antibiotics that are a little easier on your kidneys, but those tend to be a little harder on the liver.
My dad was taking kidney support herbs with the OK of his LLMDs and his kidney specialist (nephrologist).
My dad's tests got better when he went off Flagyl, so I would say that the kidneys are affected by medications but can also get better when the offending medication is removed.
I don't know about which herbs or supplements are hard on the kidneys, but as I said, there are specific herbal blends that support the kidney.
Please post if you do have kidney function tests.

thanks guys, these are just my opinions and from what i can glean from the web. symptoms seem to match tho --metallic taste in mouth, backpain, etc.
my last bloodwork was done in december. she didn't test in january as she said to stop all meds, then i went on herbs on my own.
so right now i don't have a llmd just primary.
i guess when you mention eyes and kidney/liver i just freak out. seems i have backslid since i went off ceftin.

Geniveve, I had persistent aching in the kidneys when I was taking Resveratrol. No fever, urine was clear.
I stopped all the herbs, and the pain stopped. I took ONE tablet of Resveratrol, and it started again.
A couple months later, I tried mangosteen capsules. Heh, the same thing happened again.
Both Resveratrol and Mangosteen are potent antioxidants. A knowledgeable Lyme friend suggested that it might be a herx, but I guess I'll never know for sure.

some experiences with kidneys and treatment agents:
i first had kidney sensations of hot, cold, vibrative sensations, and sensations of fullness, after my very first, two cloves of minced fresh garlic. started this months after initial doxy course, after which i "went neuro," and nothing taken between the doxy and the garlic.
months to a year later i had severe kidney pain and many other kidney sensations with, and after i.v. rocehphin and with two courses of oral ceftin.
different enzymes quelled these, variably from 50-70%. with the ceftin, bromelain had a dramatic effect.
zhang prtcl.taken after rocephin, i.v. X 4days, sensations quelled by 80% after approx. 5 days, noticeably, approx. by 12-24hr. after starting zhang's prtcl. numbers are rough estimate. effect dramatic.
months without abx + kidney(flank) pain, and other sensations, then took wobenzym. some relief after within hour(s), and sensations diminished by 40-50%, then effect plateaued at roughly at this level.
imo, if this occurs again, i'd go with an enzyme formualtion that did not contain the trypsin and/or the chymotrypsin since i think these may have kept the inflammation at a certain level.

I have been diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis which is basically inflammation. My kidney blood tests have been ok so far.
They saw something on a CT scan. I was supposed to see my kidney doc tomorrow but going to have to cancel because we are having a major snow storm.
I think I am having pain now. I have that metallic taste. Is that related to kidney stuff? I know Biaxin can do that.

Herbs can damage kidneys.
Antibiotics can damage kidneys.
Lyme can damage kidneys.
Babesiosis can BIG TIME damage kidneys.
Ehrlichiosis can damage kidneys.
Bartonella can damage kidneys.
YES kidneys can heal to a certain point.
With true damage they can't, like if you have diabetes and damage them that way.
With impairment they can- and sometimes the line between damage and impairment is very vague.
Best wishes to you- & your kidneys!! I had kidney disease as a child. Childrens kidneys can regenerate if damaged, if they are young enough. I have two partial kidneys, not a single full normal one.
BABESIOSIS is the biggest offender pathologically with kidneys.
Best wishes, Sarah
