Hi Guys! I recently wrote a post on Lyme headahes. On Monday I will be having a nerve test on the back of my neck, skull, head, etc. Does anyone know how it will be performed? Is it painful? Will the test irritate the nerves that already hurt? I know, too many questions.............

I don't know if you are having a nerve conduction test or some other nerve test. I have had a nerve conduction test on my lower body.
Basically they put a metal contact on the skin over the of the nerve at the end near your spine and the end further from the spine and see how quickly the electricity mves from point A to point B. Then they repeat this with accupuncture like needles in the same points.
I recall unpleasant sensations, but very brief, and aftewards, no ill effects. However I seem to remember the doctor saying I seemed to tolerate it well.
This test is supposed to determine if you have any impingement or compression of the nerve, which can be a root cause of pain. I did not, though I've had leg pain for 5 years.
I was recently seeing another pain doc to get my TENS devise approved -- it is an electrical stimulator that you put over the sore parts, and zap yourself for 20 minutes or so, and it reduces the pain for a couple of hours. Since my pain is literally in my butt, the TENS unit allows me to sit! I realy like it because it reduces my need for Advil.
At any rate I asked if he treated Lyme patients for head pain (which I also have). He said that he treats Lyme patients, who have pain at the base of the skull, top of the neck. My pain is in the side of my head, so he's not for me. But his response might indicate that your situation is something pain doctors are aware of, and know how to treat.
Good luck,
K
PS - do you think I should change my handle to paininthebuttocK ?
Just relating experience here -- not advice of any kind.
