Well you are basically reminding me of my first 4 months of treatment was.

It sounds like your herxing. If it is too much to bare then ask your LLMD to lower your dose, but if your on 200mg of doxy, is not alot FOR MOST people,. But you may not be most poeple.

My whole family can not take high doses and we all had to start out with low doses.

My husband started out with 100mg of doxy a day and worked his way up to 400mg a day. This took a few months just to work up to that dose.

But YES herxing is normal while on ABX and with lyme!

Take care,
Lisi

I'm with you, but I'm on Zithromax. I have to pulse the abx(antibiotics). Few weeks on, one week off to detox.

Let your dr. know what's going on. You may have to take breaks sometimes.

I'm on 400 mg doxy and will be adding zithro. I was on mino before that.

Are you taking adequate probiotics a few hours away from your abx? Are you taking anything to support your body's ability to get rid of dead bugs (endotoxins)? Are you drinking lots of water to help your body detox?

If you are killing a lot of bugs and are not able to detox very well you can feel very sick! Many of us who have been sick for awhile already have a compromised detox system so we often start abx in a state where our body has difficulty dealing with the debri of bug killing. Bugs release toxins when they die. This can cause inflammation and other symptoms that can be very difficult to tolerate.

Consider reading up on supportive therapy. If your LLMD does not offer advice on this, think about adding a doctor to your team who does such as a naturopathic doctor or some other health care professional who understands the issues you will be dealing with.

I take questran which helps the body get rid of toxins but I also take a ton of other things and see both an LLMD and LLND who work together. I don't detox very well through my skin so I need extra support. Even with that, I am far from feeling well but at least I can tolerate the treatment (barely). Without it I would not be able to go to the dose that I need to take in order to get proper treatment.

Search the archives here for information on detoxification for more help.

Oh yes. Sounds very familiar. I'm sorry you're so miserable. I agree with what Terry said about detoxing. Very important!

Some LLMD's advocate backing off the meds if the herxing is too strong. However, if you were recently bitten, that would not be advised.
