Hello,

Part of my experience with starting treatment is that I developed red, rough scaly inflamed skin on the back of my hands and wrists, and to a lesser degree my face.

I also have got swollen glands and a very sore throat. I've been gargaling with Hydrogen peroxide. And then based on a search I did of the archives, I added gargling with sesame oil for about 10 minutes (20 min. recommended -- just can't make it that long.

The hydrogen peroxided helped, the oil did miracles.

So I thought what's good for the mouth might be good for the skin -- so I slathered my body in sesame oil, especially the inflamed bits. Then I took a shower.

What a difference -- my skin is not nearly as inflamed.

So, my theory. Lyme toxins are attracted to fats and that's why they go for the neural tissue, right?

So is the oil taking the toxins out of my skin? What do you think?

Great.

Drinking oil would cure GI problems?

Essential oil would do the trick, I guess.

When taken internally, essential fatty acids such as found in fish oils, flax seed oils, borage seed oils, etc. are anti-inflammatory - that's one of the reasons they are recommended for heart health and arthritis.

So I'm wondering if it was more of the anti-inflammatory properties that did the trick.

if the sesame oil did miracles, then its high likely that you may have cured an essential fatty acid deficit.

Karen,
I think that pharmaceutical quality fish oil would help with that.

I've been taking Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil capsules, 3 1000 mg capsules a day, and have been amazed by the improvement in my very dry skin.

This was recommended by LLMD, who also thought it would help with sleep, constipation, joint and cognitive problems.

Hi,Karenelee-

I have used dedeme oil. My chiropractor says it is a very potent antibiotic and antifungal. When I scratched the inside of my ear, he used it as an antibiotic. You are on to something.

I'm seeing my Lyme Doc on Thursday. I'll ask her what she thinks about oil, both externally and internally.

Do any of you get this scaly inflamed skin from the herx?

I get it from "winter" dry Skin..I think a mix of cold weather & dry heat

Thought you may be interested in this post by Mo on oil pulling as a way to detox...she mentions using sesame oil

Thanks for leading me to the thread on oil pulling. Fascinating.

I am a yoga therapist, so I know a little bit about yoga's sister science, Ayurveda, which uses oils for various purposes, and I had heard it recommened before for a friend with strep to gargle daily with oil.

I'm thinking about how to combine this oil pulling with my cholestyramine -- it seems that if oil in the mouth stimulates bile and excretion of liver toxins, that then taking the binder would be a great combo. I'll give it a try.

And the red dry skin I've bene having is way beyond the winter skin -- at first I thought it was an allergic reaction to the meds, but then I figured out it was some kind of herxing reaction. Adn the oil continues to be helpful.

For about four months last year I did oil pulling faithfully each morning. Actually, I swished (not gargled.) I did this because of bleeding gums and weak and discolored teeth. It was remarkable the change in my gums and teeth. (I just read every post on oil pulling and searched for a place to buy cold pressed organic oil.)

I have started back after not doing it for three months. My teeth remain strong but since I am off abx I want to keep detoxing and when I see my son's llmd this week I was going to ask her if she thought I would also benefit from using cholestyramine.
