After being symptom free for almost two years, I started having a few of my classic Lyme symptoms recur in the last couple of weeks (tinnitus, ear pressure, leg spasms, sleep disruption), along with a new one -- being REALLY cold in the evenings. I was thinking relapse and went to my good duck.
He noticed I had a really bad sinus infection and said, "let's put you on spectracef to simultaneously take care of the sinus infection and see what the Lyme symptoms do."
I saw marked improvement in the sinus infection within a day or so, and the Lyme-like symptoms started to resolve quickly too. I've had nothing resembling a herx.
So, now I'm wondering whether my immune system is just "programmed" to react to an infection in a Lyme-like way. Has anyone heard of that? I would LOVE it if that was the case, because I dread thinking about battling the evil beast again.

I don't know what it is either. The same thing happens with my daughter. After four years and many,many ups and downs, Dr. J stopped her abx. feeling she was infection free. She has been off antibiotics for fourteen months. She has done very well physically. She is not the sick child she was a few years ago.
She will have "mini" flares. Flares is probably not a good word to use to describe this. Some of her old lyme symptoms come back if she becomes ill. When she was still sick, if something happened,such as a fractured ankle, she would have a flare. Her symptoms would continue to get worse. Now, when she becomes ill or has an injury, some of her old lyme symptoms come back, but they improve as she improves.
Dr. J tried to stop her abx a year before we finally did. Then she got a virus and had a flare. Instead of improving, all her lyme symptoms returned and she became ill again. She went back on abx for another year and now is is well.
I also wonder if this is just the way her body will react to illness/injury for the rest of her life? We were very scared when it first happened. We thought, here we go again. Then as we watched her symptoms go away after 24-48hours instead of increase, we were relieved. When she was sick, she didn't get better, now she does. Sorry, not much help but, it does happen to my daughter too.
