Question to those who get Zhang herbs in raw and package them into capsules themselves: does that help reduce the cost substantially (e.g. by more than >50%)?
My doc (Dr H in CA) says that the garlic component can be takeb by chewing 8 garlic pieces a day. So, that already saves some $$ (and hopefully does not destroy taste buds).

Dr. Zhang are all chinese herbs. Feel free to buy them anywhere you would like. However, they won't be Dr. Zhang's herbs.
One problem with herbal products is that they are not controlled by the F.D.A. As such, you don't know what you are getting.
Dr. Zhang, while more expensive, has a proven track record with his products. There are many here that are taking the straight garlic and swear by it (especially freeze dried) so I was only trying to clarify the difference in Dr. Zhang's herbs and doing it on your own.
Best of luck to you in your path and keep us up to date as to how it goes.

I thought about that in the beginning, to buy the bulk herbs and mix myself. The problem is you dont' know the proportion Zhang uses in each capsule. Of course, he'll keep that secret, or anyone could open a parallel business!
Besides, it seems his herbs are 'clean' (he affirms that in his book, someone told me), and when you buy bulk herbs, not many are organic/ clean. That would also justify part of the high cost of his herbs.
As for garlic, I had a good experience with frozen garlic, it was so potent I never needed more than 3 a day. I dont know if his garlic is different though...
