Hi,

Does anyone know what thrush/yeast looks like when you scrape it off the tongue?

I have a tongue cleaner and this brownish, phlegm like stuff comes off.

Is this thrush/yeast?

Thanks,

Hi Rob,

I have constant problems with oral thrush, and i think thrush is usually a whitish color but mabye it can be brownish to, i am not sure, mabye someone else can give you more info.

The thrush that i have is always white unless i eat something that stains like blueberrys, then it is blue that day when i scrape it off.

Mine have been a thick white coating-when I drink alot of teas the coating sometimes gets stained brown. Not the normal white coating say from milk but a coating that is very thick that doesn't brush off. I also get a distinctive bad taste in my mouth. Sorry to be gross

I was told by my doc once they can also be brownish & yellowish too.

hope this helps [Smile]

My daughter had that once because she sucked a cough drop when she went to bed. The next morning...disgusting. We were out of diflucan, so we followed Dr. B's recommendation.

Listerine and a throwaway toothbrush. Or one you soak in alcohol for later. Fill your mouth with Listerine and stick in the toothbrush and brush your tongue and surrounding areas.

Really helped.

Hi Rob

I was thinkin of you today & thought I would ask...

If you suspect thrush is there any way a doc could scape your tongue or swab & run a culture?
To see for if it's yeast, if you are not sure.

Hope this helps

If you are taking anything with bismuth in it, such as Pepto Bismol it may make your tongue brown. Hiker

I've been advised by my doc to gargle with hydrogen peroxide. It works, but since the thrush went down my throat, she put me on anti fungal lozenges.

I've also found the "oil pulling" technique pretty helpful. If you search those terms you'll find a thread about it.
