UHC insurance is trying to cut off IV coverage and I am presently using the appeal process. It appears I may be able to order the 2gm powder form from Medco according to their website, but the representatives seem clueless. Has anyone had success with mail order? Did you mix the drug at home or through a pharmacy? The best price, so far, for IV home services is $100.00/day including their supplies. Generic Rocephin through Medco is only $380.00 for 90 days, drug only. Thanks, Brian.

When I got Rocephin from the free Rocephin program it was in a powder form and I mixed it with saline myself at home. You just gently swirled and it dissolved easily. Was VERY easy!!!

That is a good price for Ceftriaxone but the IV supplies sound absolutely outrageous!!! That does not sound RIGHT at all!!! Oh I see- that is including services-

Get an IV nurse for a week if you need one- then ytou can do it yourself- ask her to train you! IT IS SO EASY!! My 3 year old infused me every day. She loved helping! It was so easy though- that she could do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keeping things sterile is easy too once you get strict about it. And we can always help you here.

SASH stands for

saline-
antibiotic
heparin
saline

and is the order to infuse stuff!!! It is easy!!!

Re just supplies-
What I did was go to my local pharmacy with what
the infusion company was giving me and said, to my local regular pharmacist, "Can you help>?" and he got me the same stuff for about one dollar to every 50!!!!!!! They were REALLY making A LOT of money off us. IV supplies should NOT be expensive at all like that- !!!!!!!!!!!! And every Lymie I know except one self-infuses!!!
Very simple to learn!!!

Best wishes,
Sarah

do a search in "general support" for "insurance appeals" using my member number. Some info should come up. It may help you. My insurance (which medco was part of) ended up covering my entire 6 1/2 months of IV rocephin. But, that wasn't without a LOT of letter writing on my part.

Brian,
Rocephin can also be given IM. Mixed with Lidocaine, it's not bad. It doesn't cause too much residual soreness or swelling. Also, your activities aren't as resticted and you don't have toworry about site infections.
It might be worth it to avoid delays, added expense, and constant brawling with the insurance.
