My doctor told me to eat Stonyfield Yogurt which has 5 active cultures to prevent yeast overgrowth...4-8oz/day. I am taking 1500mg amoxy right now. Is that enough to combat any yeast issues?

I've been brushing my tongue, inside my mouth and teeth very well 3x/day also.

Also does the acidophilus help prevent stomach issues such as nausea/diarrhea while on antibiotics? It keeps the GI system intact?

Any other tips would be great, thanks!

Be careful of the yogurt. They usually contain quite a bit of sugar and were counterproductive for me.

I used PB8 acidophilus for years, and fought the yeast tooth and nail. Wish Theralac had been around then!!

I take 1 Theralac per day even though I'm not on abx. PRior to that, I took the PB8 during and after going off abx, to no avail!

So....it all depends upon WHICH acidophilus you get as to how many you have to take. They are NOT created equal!

Yes, your intestinal tract will function much better with an adequate supply of acidophilus in it.

www.theralac.com

It contains 20 billion CFU, while many others contain 10 bil or less. Also read the DIFFERENCE in how Theralac works.

--I would say the more the better. Eating Stoneyfield yoghurt is certainly not something I would ever dread!
however, I would avoid eating too much yoghurt within an hour or a bit more, of an oral abx dose- it may waste some of the abx. Try to have some food between the two, also. Closer to the abx, but far enough away from food intake, citracidal, or grapefruit extract, seemed helpful fot me; it has antibiotic properties and is also anti-yeast.
Be a letrtle careful, though, as it is quite strong, andvery acidic.
