Ok I am on 1500mg amoxy/day and am slowly increasing now to 3000mg. Woke up this a.m. and lo and behold - pretty sure I'm having yeast issues. I have been taking Stonyfield yogurt 4oz/day BUT realize that I may have been taking it too close to the ABX and it probably was killing it off. So I was doing it all for nothing! Plus it probably wasn't enough - HOW MUCH yogurt should I be eating daily?
I was also looking into Culturelle which I can buy locally. I have a very sensitive system so need to find something that will help w/the yeast yet not make my tummy upset since I just got it back to normal.
Thanks everyone!

I'm sure yogurt doesn't hurt-but according to my Doc it doesn't help much either against the yeast issue-I take probiotics twice a day-two different kinds. I am not familiar with the product you mentioned. Just trying to support the issue that more than yogurt in necessary. Are you being treated by an LLMD-cause they should be aware of this issue, too. When my daughter first started taking abx, the doc at the time recommended Stonyfield yogurt. She was very nauseous and found it hard to eat anything, but managed to eat about 3 containers a day. She also then started taking Culturelle, because I was able to but it at the local chain-type phamacy.
I really underestimated the amount of probiotics needed to combat the heavy doses of abx and the length of time on abx. Sure enough, she wound up with an ongoing yeast infection.
Many people here, now including myself, recommend Theralac. My daughter takes 2 a day plus another one from Klaire Labs called Ther-Biotic Complete. I have no affiliation with either of these companies. You can order Theralac by calling 1-800-926-2961. It is kind of pricey but worth it. The Klaire Labs probiotic can only be ordered through their distributors. It is half the price of Theralac. 60 pills for the price of 30. I think that it is important to have a variety of probiotics in you system, not just one kind.
Many others here have recommended other products that seem to also work very well. Do a search and you will find a lot on this topic, including diet tips, herbal products that work well and much more.
For me, I wish I had started out doing the right thing from the beginning, now I feel that we are always trying to "catch-up" with yeast issues.

Can the Theralac upset your stomach if you are sensitive? I know the Culturelle has less in it...that's my only concern. I have discharge right now and some itchiness, so I believe the yeast has begun.
Maybe I'm confused as maybe the probiotic actually helps calm your stomach down? I have had reflux/nausea issues and have to increase my ABX so the probiotic should help w/that?
Could you take Stonyfield and add only acidophilus tablets at the highest active amount and get beneficial results? I guess I'm confused. Thanks!
Thanks!

Twinklette,
I know most people on Lymenet, and many Lyme practitioners, swear by Theralac.
But I took one and threw up for hours.
I had been able to tolerate several other brands, including Culturelle, so Theralac obviously was way too strong for me, either causing massive die-off or I had an allergic reaction to it.
The last few months I've become really sensitive to supplements so I'm having to ramp up slowly on some new brands of probiotics.
Since it sounds like you're sensitive, you may want to start out on some less powerful probiotics just to make sure you tolerate them, before giving Theralac a try.
There was a thread several weeks ago - a few of us did have reactions to Theralac - so I am just bringing it up as a slight caution.
In addition to all the capsules, tablets and powders of probiotics, a Lyme pal recently told me about a probiotic called Bio-K that is thick like yogurt. It's in the refrigerated section with other probiotics.
I've been taking a few spoonfuls of that because it's all I can tolerate at the moment. But it tastes like yogurt - you might like it - but it's expensive.
