A few months ago, my pulse dropped to about 60 beats per minute, which is odd since I wasn't in great shape. I've been getting in better shape lately, and my pulse rate continues to gradually drop. Now I average in the high 40s for resting heart rate, and rarely am much over 50 (except when exercising). I have an appointment with a cardiologist next week, but find myself getting pretty uptight about this. How much lower can it go?
I've read the threads on bradycardia, but would love any additional insight? I've been symptom-free from Lyme for about two years, and only recently have had some recurrence of a few symptoms as well as some new ones (this being one of them).
I was never tested nor treated for coinfections, and I'm wondering if there could be a link there. Any evidence for late-onset heart symptoms with babs, for instance? I was infected more than 4 years ago, and although I had some heart issues early on (some PVCs and forceful heartbeat), I hadn't really thought my heart was affected that much.
Oh yeah, and a recent echocardiogram suggested that my heart is borderline enlarged. What's up here? I'm 40, in reasonably good shape (now), and am starting to freak out a bit!
Words of comfort? Advice?
Many thanks!
Jeff

Did you have a tilt table test? This will indicate bradycardia.

Jeff -- Energy work helped me once, with similar weaknesses, i.e. low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat. Acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, etc. Also, I took many different homeopathic remedies.
JB has some good ideas too, like being sure to take the right supplements, and knocking down the infection if it is creeping back in somehow.
This is unsettling. Hopefully it will shift soon once the right path is found.

Thanks for the replies! Just wondering how it is that Bb affects the heart. Is it that the spirochetes lodge there and cause inflammation, etc., or is that they interfere with neurological signals? My Lyme experience has been largely neuro, so I'm wondering whether there could be a connection there.

Spirochetes can go anywhere it seems, so both things could be true.

I know a runner whose heart rate is similar to yours. If you do endurance type exercise it could be normal. My normal rate is 60 and will go down as low as 45 when sleeping. I do not have Lyme and smoke but never exercise.
If you feel it is to low compared to what it used to be it is a good ides to check it out. Hopefully it is a good sign but never hurts to do some research on the symptoms.
Do you take Statin drugs?
