I am currently on Mepron and am wondering what

people have done to prevent gaining too much

weight since my diet has to consist of more fat.

I attempted to lift some weights, since any

cardio is practically impossible, and I thought

I was going to die. For those who have taken

this drug, what worked and what didn't as far as

weight control? Or did people just assume they

might gain some weight, but that it's better

than being sick?

Also, I have read the posts about how much fat

to take, but I am confused. [confused] Do you

have to take the fat just when you take the

mepron, or does it have to be spread out

throught the entire day? Thanks in advance for

any help [Big Grin]

Hi collegegirl21,

You take the fat with the Mepron. My son and I took it with milk, cheese, or a fatty meat like bacon/ham.

I took Malarone, which has Mepron in it. One of the side effects for me was a loss of appetite, so maybe the Mepron will effect you this way? I actually lost weight while treating Babesia, because I felt better and better.

good luck... [group hug]

I force myself to lift weights even though I don't have the energy for it. I think it really has kept me from becoming physically disabled from the muscle and joint pain. Start out easy ... better to do light weights and be able to lift for an hour to get your body temperature up, than to lift heavier weights for a short time. Normally I don't like that theory, but with Lyme it's different. I DO lift heavy weights, but I've lifted for a long time and I find I cannot increase the weight I lift, it's hard enough to not lose strength.

I also have NO appetite ... I eat the fat with the mepron. I use coconut oil a lot since it is also very good for you and is good to keep candida down. One of my favorites for the breakfast dose is brie and prunes.

Maybe if you cut out more starchy carbs it will help. I mostly eat meat, eggs and veggies, with some starchy carbs, but not a lot.

I should say that I also have to eat gluten-free, and I think that helps control my weight a lot since it cuts out bread, pastries, pasta (except for brown rice pasta), etc.
