I'd like to find out more about how people minimize their herxheimer reactions.

So far I have gotten suggestions on the following:

1. Drinking a gallon a day of filtered tap water.

2. Drinking distilled water, making sure to replace minerals at other times.

3. Dringking lemon water.

4. Drinking a whole lemon blended with a cup of olive oil and a cup of water or juice, strained.

5. Ozonized water, in moderation, as it can cause herx rather than prevent it.

6. Doing sweats, far infrared preferred, making sure to replace minerals.

7. Epsom salt baths.

Am I missing anything? What works best for you? Any of these not work for you?

Your feedback is much appreciated!

Really good list.

I'd only add two things:

detox foot pads

and a LOT of sleep!

I agree with the lots of water.

I used MediClear my first time around with a pretty strict diet.

Sleep is VERY important.

When you think of HERX think of the dying off and flushing it out of your body.

I found a well trained massage therapist to be helpful.

I was also on IV Vitamins & Minerals the first time too.

Alka seltzer is helpful as it reduces acid in the system.

For me , hot baths help lots.

I take a product called fiber fusion, by Enzymatic Therapy designed to absorb toxins in the bowel. It helps!

Others here like chlorella, but it made me feel MUCH worse !

Jim Bob and others swear by red rooot tincture , which I have ordered to try . I tried a product called burbur , which did nothing for me.

Great list! Thank you for the help!

One other I have heard of and forgot to mention is coffee enemas. Have not heard if they help at all though, and I'd rather swallow something, given the option.

Any others?

Glutathione helps through the herx. It helps to pull all the toxins out of the system.

I like a chinese formula called Bian Pian for head/sinus issues. I take several doses per day until herx subsides. And I too, think chorella helps (I notice some here take very large amounts). And whey protein for glutathione precursors among other things. NAC might be helping, too. I am sure it is not hurting, anyway.

Good to ask a lot of questions!

And then there's my husband's favorite:

Doctor, doctor it herx when I do this.
So don't do that.

Hi bejoy,

So far tincups detox tea recipes been helping me the most-very mild type teas. Here's the link:

Just wondered in your first post do you really drink one cup of olive oil? I kinda though it was like couple of TBS of olive oil. Does drinking a whole cup of olive oil work better-does it make you nauseated?

I was doing lots of things to detox but still feeling awful. My LLMD ran some tests and one was called a C3d Immune complex. It was high. He said we were killing lots of bugs but my intercellular matrix was not detoxing enough and was full of crap. He told me to take the Pekana remedies. There is a detox package. I also took gemmo drainage remedies from my LLND. Both of the intercellular drainage products made me really sick at first but I'm finally starting to feel a little better. I suspect that I probably have some problem detoxing the intercellular space.

When the bugs die, they release metals. This could be part of your problem. You need something like chlorella to bind them in the gut and remove them. I have apparently developed an allergy to chlorella so I am taking chitosan instead. Apple pectin has a similar effect.

Also, you can end up with neurotoxins from having an infection and from killing bugs. They can make you really sick too. Some people can't get rid of those toxins very well and they will continue to cause illness until we do something to get rid of them. Some LLMD's use cholestyramine for that coupled with actos. You should be able to find lots of info on detox by doing a search here. I think beta sitosterol may have a similar action to cholestyramine and it is not a prescription but you should do some research on that first. Some people with lyme get really sick on the cholestyramine unless they take actos with it.

Radha -- I have purchased Bian Pian from Pharmaca and from a small natural foods/supplement store called Vitamin Cottage here in Colorado for approximately $6.99. But I am almost positive Whole Foods or Wild Oats would carry it. It is an extremely classic or traditional sinus remedy used in chinese medicine. Mine comes in a small white bottle with red label.

You also might try on-line sources like, perhaps, 1st Chinese Herbs for better prices.

For strong neuro herx reactions, I had to take it often throughout the day for a few days to see relief. More does not appear to harm, or at least not in my case. This was also per instructions from an herbalist at Pharmaca. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known I could take it so often.

Hope this helps.

Claire

You are over taxing your Lymph system. You MUST cleanse your liver and the rest of the lymph system.

The BEST I have found is Red Root tincture, Milk Thistle AND Sarsaparilla.

THOSE items are more important than the abx or other herbs you are taking.

I personally would STOP everything else, and give these herbs a chance to clean out your system, then go back slowly to your other regimen, all the while NEVER giving up on the Red Root, Sarsaparilla and Milk THistle.

IF the OTHER Tx you are using is contraindicated with these good cleansing herbs, then you are on the wrong protocol to be kind to your body.

Change it, so your system can survive and live.

Do all that and you should be pretty much herx free or at least they will be mild while you are getting better.

I would also like to add that inflammation can factor in the equation in lyme & for me also anything I can do in this department helps for detox as well. I add a hunck of ginger to steep in my detox teas which helps some. Ginger is suppposed to be good for inflammation.

hope this helps
