Okay, this is really weird.

I have had very large tonsils since I was around 15 or 16 years old (About 25 yrs).

When I would get sick, they would touch.

Just tonight, as one of my children has strep throat, I thought I would look at my throat because it was hurting.

I can't even see my tonsils! It is like someone came in and removed them.

I know this is weird, but does this relate to Lyme?

Could I have had a chronic infection for 25 years that is positively being affected by being on antibiotics for 4 and one half months?

I find this curiously fascinating, but when I look in my mouth, it is like looking in a strangers.

Shoot, in Speech Therapy classes I was always used to show everybody what enlarged tonsils I had.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed. I am truly perplexed by this.

Thank you in advance

Interesting. Maybe the meds are working and you aren't stressing your lymph nodes as much. I would think that being on all the meds would have the opposite effect -- more to detox!

My tonsils had always been huge since childhood. I also used to get these smelly "stones" in it.

Since I've been on abx for so long they are very small now. For me there is no question: the abx fixed my problem tonsils.

My tonsils disappeared too. I think it has something to do with B cells--which lyme can affect. Tonsils are a source of B cells. Maybe the body is trying to get rid of a reservoir of lyme, thats just speculation, or maybe it harms B cells and tonsils shrink. I never realized they were gone until a doc said, "You had your tonsils out?" and I said, "No" and he said, "Well you have no tonsils!"

My daughter's tonsils have always been huge, as well. But, now I can't see them. However, she feels that there is an enlargement in that area, with lots of pain. I see red spots all over her throat.

We are going to the doc today to ask about that.

ENTs have told me that tonsils normally shrink during adulthood. Mine have not, and I've had a non stop sore throat for about 7 years. Gotta be the infection.

That's food that gets stuck in tonsil crypts (small cavities). White bread is a major culprit for me as it seems to compact down to just the right size to get stuck during a swallow.

Now that you mention it, my tonsils have shrunk in size and no more of that smelly stuff, whatever it is. Must be the abx! [Big Grin]

As a teen I had frequent strep and was afraid I would have to have them removed. It was probably all related to Lyme back then, just didn't know it in those days. [Eek!]

I swear I have looked in my mouth about 10 times today.

I am still amazed!!!! Swallowing is noticeably different without all that obstruction.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I am to see my LLMD next week and will ask about this.

I did have high EBV on testing....wonder if that was related....

Thanks again.

Funny, I had lots of issues with my tonsils through my teens and worse in my 20's. Finally, 2 months before my 30th B-Day, they took them out!

Hmmm.....

I wonder if they had diagnosed the Lyme earlier if they would of had to remove them.

I had an odd thing happen.

I was on Babesia treatment with Clindamycin and quinine, and had a very sore throat.
I was having severe herxing, and looked in my throat to see if it was red, in the

mirror. I saw these white spots on the tonsils, so took a Q-tip to take them off, them would not come off.

I then pushed it, the tonsil and this white/yellowy thing popped out. I them continued to pop all them out. I actually had some of this stuff ouze out of the tonsil, like a thick

creame. It was very awful smelling. I continued to take and pop these things out of my tonsils while on the babesia treatment.

After the babesia treatment ended, I have not had any of these things in my tonsils.

I am in lyme treatment, but no tonsil stones.

So, for me, I think it was the babesia herxing, and the tonsils were getting overloaded with the babesia dying off.

Very disgusting. I took all them out of the tonsils, and threw them away, I never swallowed any of them. When I pushed the tonsil, all this yellow stuff came out, I threw it away, I do not have this in the tonsils now, so it must

have been babesia.

Hope I have not offended anyone with this, I wanted to post this if others had it. I am such a bloody mess in the head lately, my thinking and word writing is getting soo terrible. I feel like an idiot in the mind.

Hi all,

Well, I wish I could add my personal experience, but I had my tonsils removed when I was very young. My opinion, I think it probably is connected to lyme. Anyway, I'm glad your tonsils are better Geneal. [Wink]

Trish, your story didn't offend me, sometimes you just need to say like it is...and you never know, there could be someone reading this right now..with the very same probelm and YOU helped them.

If your tonsils are bad (dguy and others) you should really consider having them removed. A source of constant infection in the body makes it hard for the body to heal. Many, many years ago I had a bad case of mono. After several months I somewhat recovered and was able to limp along as long as I didn't overdo it.

However, the glands in my neck always felt swollen and achey. A couple of years later, I came down with a full blown case of tonsillitis. I had my tonsils removed and I finally felt "normal" again.

I must have had a low grade infection in there all that time and it was sapping my strength.

My father was very sick as a child and his tonsils rotted right out of his throat. His doctor at the time was quite surprised. I have never heard of this happening to anyone else.

I've never pushed on my tonsils (hypersensitive gag reflex), but wonder what would have come out of mine?!!

Glad there gone, or I would be spending the morning gagging myself just to see what would happen.

I am kind of morbidly curious that way.

Never heard of anyone's tonsils rotting out. That sounds very painful.

I am sure that this is a good thing (tonsils disappearing after 25 yrs), just still really strange.

There has to be a Lyme connection whether it is the infection itself or the intense round of antibiotics for such a long duration.

I promise that if my LLMD can shed some light on this (see him next Wed), I'll be here sharing the info.

Wonder now if my Epstein-Barr titers have dropped.....

With Lyme, it is like having a full moon over your head every night. You never know what strange or weird thing will happen to you next.

Here's me howling at the moon.

Geneal, I think you scared everyone away with that 'morbid curiosity' comment. [lol]

I've been getting tonsil stones(aka tonsiloliths) since about the time I got lyme, and met my wife(5 years ago for lyme, 4.5 for wifey).

She got them before I was around, only when she was sick. Now we both get them on a regular basis.

I think it is due in large part to post nasal drip- we both have it.

I've noticed if I rinse every so often with hydrogen peroxide(diluted) or Dr. Katz's mouth rinse they go away for awhile.

Also seem to lessen if you take really close care to brush the insides of your cheeks.

Does anyone else have similar experiences? I've asked my dentist/hygienist about it and they are clueless.

Tonsils and their Role in Health and Chronic Illness -

http://neuraltherapy.com/a_tonsils.asp

a number of patients go to Germany to have their tonsils "repaired" with Tonsil Cryosurgery (Dr. Dorochov, Viersen, Germany). The treatment is very reasonable and has been a life-saver for a number of people. I am not sure whether it is now available in the U.S.

Regenerative Cryotherapy

Regenerative Cryotherapy (deep freeze treatment) for snoring, chronic tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils), chronic pharyngitis (inflammation of the throat), chronic rhinitis (sniffles) and other diseases.

Specialist in Regenerative Cryotherapy - Dr. Sergej Dorochov
Study: Medicine in Russia: Otolaryngologist Pediatrician
1995 - Alternative Medicine Practitioner specializing in
Cryotherapy, GermanyPatents: 1994 - Russian Patent - ``Treatment for Snoring by Means of
Regenerative Cryotherapy''
1998-1997 - German Patent - ``Device for Sectional Tightening and Revitalization of the Mouth and Throat Mucosa''

Cryotherapy (`kryos' gr. `deep freeze') is a treatment by means of Regenerative Cryotherapy and has been used for many centuries in different medical treatments depending on the intensity of the deep freeze effect.

Deep freeze is used as well as the regenerative and healing treatment (regenerative cryotherapy) as in cryosurgery; where cells, organs and ulcers are put under destructive influence (the so-called destructive necrotic cryotherapy or cryosurgery.

In this article I have outlined regenerative cryotherapy (regenerative and healing) by discussing the application of the procedure in treating chronic inflammations of the nose, throat and anti-snoring therapy. In 1986, I developed, researched and applied the procedure for regenerative cryotherapy in Russia and set up private practice in Germany from 1995. Many of my patients have shown dramatic health improvements from my treatment.

The regenerative cryotherapy adjusts the mutated cells and activates the whole organism for increasing the body's immunity. This is achieved by means of regenerative renewal. It is important to note that the procedure of regenerative cryotherapy has no known side effects and is highly recommended for both adults and children.

It is important for everyone to maintain and care for their complete/whole self and avoid surgery wherever possible. It is therefore important to care about the throat by applying a therapy which, when needed, does not involve
surgery.

Latest immunological research has proved that the tonsils play a vital part in the protection of the body.

The procedure of regenerative cryotherapy cares about the inflamed and degenerative cells of the tonsils (in the case of chronic tonsillitis). The procedure, therefore, regenerates and activates the cells so that the body's defense against viruses and bacteria is wholly restored.

Other lymphatic cells, such as the lymphfollicel and lymphgrains, also exist in the throat. They look like little knots and grains and are placed towards the back and sides of the throat. Chronic pharyngitis results from the inflammation of these little knots and grains.

Regenerative cryotherapy restores the function of these lymphatic follicles and grains so that the immune system adjusts itself to its optimum and healthy potential, fighting against viruses, bacteria and other foreign microorganisms.

Chronic inflammation in the throat (chronic tonsillitis and pharyngitis) pass by very often without symptoms. Sometimes they can be accompanied with scratching or burning in the throat. During this time the patient has the feeling that something is stuck in their throat, which causes coughing. Another symptom is the frequent inflammation of the tonsils.

The therapeutic effect of regenerative cryotherapy is the complete regenerative care of the protective function of the lymphatic cells in the follicles, grains and tonsils. In this way, a full elimination of the inflammation is achieved. Chronic throat inflammations are dangerous for the whole organism because they may lead to complications, such as rheumatism, heart disease, kidney failure/disease and others. Arthritis (disease of the joints), asthmatic illnesses, blood-cell diseases, skin problems, disease of the sexual organs, etc.

With regenerative cryotherapy all these problems begin to disappear by themselves. The therapeutic effect on the entire system is stimulated and the increased immunity of the cellular system wholly restored.

Regenerative cryotherapy is suitable for chronic inflammation of the constipated nose, Ozaena (stink nose) and Polypose. After the deep-freeze treatment the structure of the mucus in the nose is regenerated and heals itself. The breathing system, below the swallowed mucus, therefore regenerates. Asthmatic attacks are reduced, polyps become smaller and even disappear.

It is also possible to cure the patient from snoring with the help of regenerative cryotherapy. Snoring is an unpleasant noise which, whilst in a deep sleep, can be extremely dangerous. There is a direct connection between high blood pressure, myocardiac attack (heart), cell-disease and psycho-neurotic disturbances. In most cases the muscles of the palate are treated with deep freeze. A local narcotic spray is used in the throat to avoid vomiting. Regenerative procedures begin on the muscle cells of the palate. The strength of the muscle palate cells is restored and palate tension shortens.

In most cases, the reason for snoring is the slackening of the muscles, which is caused by other diseases that effect the palate. These include: chronic tonsillitis chronic pharyngitis, chronic sniffles, colds and flu. If one does not treat chronic inflammations and swallowed mucus, one starts snoring and after some time, the dangerous apnoea syndrome - frequent stops of breathing in the night - will set in. In some cases it was confirmed that after the application of cryotherapy in the nose and throat the strength and elasticity of the palate was slowly gained back. Naturally this depends on the individual nature of the person, which is assessed during my treatment.

I was granted a patent from the Russian Committee for Patents and Inventions for my method and procedure for treating snoring with regenerative cryotherapy.

The procedure does not require any preparation and can be applied to a conscious patient who is sitting upright. A local narcotic spray is used before treatment to reduce vomiting stress. The procedure takes half an hour, after which time the patient is back to their ``normal'' eating/drinking habits.

I was also granted a Patent for my cryo-equipment for this use of cryotherapy. Deep freeze is produced by circulating nitrogen, which does not have any direct contact with the nose, throat or mouth. Some patients feel an unpleasant cold feeling for a few seconds, whilst others feel nothing. After the procedure the cell system regenerates and restores new and healthy cells. This process lasts for four to six weeks. After this period, the patient should go for a check-up. If the cells are not completely renewed another treatment is required to complete the regenerative process.

Many people (especially children) suffer from different stresses of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, joints, skin, inner organism bronchial asthma and other disease. They are not aware that their inner stresses are caused by a chronic inflammation in the throat and nose. These inflammations pass by very often without any symptoms. Normal cell functioning is restored and
increased stability of the entire immune system is wholly established by means of regenerative cryotherapy.

By means of the generative cryotherapy system, diseases or the skin can be cured such as: psoriasis, atopic and allergic dermatitis, erythema, eczema, warts, papilloma and kondylomathe.

I strongly believe that if everyone (especially children) underwent prophylactic treatment of the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, pharynx and nasal mucosa using the method of regenerative cryotherapy the following positive effects would be observed.
- improvement of the protective functions of the entire organism
- correct and healthy stimulation f the immune system

We conclude therefore that the general risk of catching systemic, rheumatoid, infectious allergic and oncological diseases, immune deficiency states, snoring and sleep apnea would be distinctly reduced.

The regenerative cryotherapy of Dr. Dorochov guides a new direction in modern medicine. Regenerative Medicine helps the sick mutated organism to regenerate itself by renewing cell function to a complete restored ``whole.'' ``My aim is to introduce regenerative cryotherapy into all aspects of medicine so that we can all benefit from the rich life we were granted at birth.''

Holy crap! I haven't looked in my mouth like that in a while, but I, too, had very large tonsils all my life. Now after 6 weeks of treatment, my tonsils are much smaller! They aren't gone, but so much smaller it's amazing!

No wonder I'm breathing better at night despite my deviated septum. Breathe strips are no longer completely necessary unless my allergies are acting up.

Now is this permanent? I can only hope...

Crazy sh*&^t!

Wow, I never gave this much thought....

I had chronically enlarged/infected tonsils as a kid, and they got worse after I had mono as a teen. For years, I got the smelly tonsil stone things, and my dentist or doctor (don't remember) said it was because I had pitted tonsils from the infections, and food and bacteria became lodged in there...

Since beginning treatment, my tonsils have decreased in size a great deal, and I don't get the white things at all, anymore....

Now I'm wondering if I had a chronic tonsil infection all this time...?
