Tick borne enciphilitis viruses... hmm this isn't discussed much in this forum.
My uncle showed my blood work and symptom list to a specalist in France. He said that he wouldn't say I necessarily have lyme, and that I should get blood tests for TBE viruses, bartonella, and inflamatory Ilness's.
My doctor has never even heard of TBE viruses! The symptoms seem to match what I have and I am curious how I can get tested for these viruses...
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Not sure if this will answer your question exactly, but I know that some members of the HHV family are sometimes a cause of encephalitis (per Tabor's medical dictionary). There are others, too, like CMV and EBV but I am not sure if they are responsible for encephalitis also.
These viruses are often associated with or problematic in LD.

My experience is that most doctors in the US ignore TBEV, Powassan, etc. which are all Tick borne. I have asked many why and no one has really made it clear....

I think my illess is because of a misquito bite 10 months ago...
I may have encephalitis: my neuro symptoms - headahce, worse memory, impaired cognition capability, eye floaters and flare/flashes, mild speech difficulty - can't find the words).
I don't have fever and cough, but a lot of on-going rashes...
But how can it be definitely diagnosed?

I think through MRI and blood tests. Does Igenex offer blood testing for TBE viruses??

Just wanted to say that it also might be worthwhile to do a search on anti-viral remedies and medicines for HHV and others. I am almost sure there were recent discussions of this as well.

No TBE is not HHV. Some say HHV might be tick transmitted, but TBE is distinct.

Here is a website that will provide some information on TBE viruses. It is discussed about 2/3 of the way down the page.
I guess I am a little confused about the different viruses, etc. I am sure that Scott is right. There seem to be specific TBE viruses.
HHV viruses often play a role in this illness, but maybe due to more to lowered immunity. Nothing stays in check.

various forms of tbe are a big problem in europe, so much so that they strongly promote everyone get vaccinated. There have been quite a few serious cases as well as deaths in Austria. You might search TBE and Austria keywords on google.
Based on this i am not surprised that the european Dr suggested a TBE virus, particularly if antibiotics did not help.

Just returned from LLMD with a prescription for valtrex, for possible virus. Assume it is from a tick, symptoms started shortly after tick bite!
He had another patient with similar symptoms as my daughter improve and go into remission with this treatment. Said it wouldn't hurt if it didn't help. We are giving it a try.
I love that he is treating the patient and not just the symptoms.

Hey David, 2 summers ago I was in the foresty hills near the German border in France. TBE is a big problem in Europe? I am thinking I should travel there and check into a private clinic to get some proper %%%%ing blood work. I have looked through the internet and cannot find labs in North America that tests for these types of virus's.
Mommak: Isn't valtrex used for coldsores as well? I remember i had a really annoying bout with coldsores last year. Good luck, what else did the doc say concerning the possible virus?
