Pls share your thoughts on this .

Being very sensitive to medications my llmd decided that i should try Artemisinin. My health is very poor and im wondering what to expect in the way of herxing or reactions. I will also slowly add in Azithromycin. Any input? And i already have shortness of breath in general, do i ride through it if that worsens?
Thx!

Hi Panic,

Couple of things regarding Art.

To begin, the first time my husband took it (100 mgs X 3 per day for 4 days it hit him pretty hard. This was about 9 months into abx. He had migrane like headaches, night sweats and palps. This is not to scare you.

If it makes you feel better, my 9 year old was just prescribed it for cyst busting and babesia. She will take 300 mgs per day for 4 days each week. She will take this in combo with zith and amox.

One other note, in a conversation with our llmd he mentioned that one should not take Art more than two times per day to avoid brainstem toxicity. That was a bit scary, but I think overall it is very safe.

My daughter's llmd mentioned dosage for kids at 10 mgs per Kg. A moderate dose of 20 mgs per Kg for adults and a very aggressive 30 mgs per Kg. This is all done in a 4 day pulse method.

Adding the zith, I think, is a must.

Good luck Panic!

My doc had me start on rawartimesia 500mg twice a day, then after a week increase to 1 g twice a day. On my own (based on lots of input) I then sometimes substituted 100mg artimisin (extract of essential ingredient in artimesia anua) for one of the 500mg caps of raw artimesia.
I had no trouble with any kind of reaction; well, maybe a little right at first, but generally I just got better by leaps and bounds-- apparently, for me, nailing the babesia was the key. This is not surprising, considering I lost my spleen, and the spleen is very important for fighting babesia. I was also on atovaquone (really fighting that babesia in a serious way...), as well as doxycycline and clarithromycin, for lyme and ehrlichia, at that time.
(not to mention mountains of garlic, and possibly some other herbal meds)
Hope the artimesia does it for you, too!

Hey Begone--

Art is Very Important for treating Babs--

Google -- WHO Artemisinin ---

Very Good info there--

Art has Definatly helped me --
It has made me herx but not to bad--
Helps stop relaps also--

I started with 300 mg aday--
then worked to a higher dose-

I have taken as much as 1200mg aday
for a week or so at a time--

Another thing that you can use for
Babs is to Drink Tonic Water--

It has a small amount of Quinine in it--
Start out drinking maybe half a Qt
aday for the first few days--

Then work your way up to a Qt or 2 aday-

It will make you herx but most likely
not real bad if you go slow --

You can get Tonic Water at most stores
in the beer wine section--

Take care --Jay --
