I started the Mepron/Zith combo that Dr. P prescribed. He also upped the Doxy that my original doc prescribed to 400 mg a day. I started yesterday morning. How long before you think I may begin to Herx? I feel jittery, which I have for the past few days. I have slept good the last two nights, but I think that is because of the Benadryl I have taken both nights.
I don't know if I am more nervous about herxing or not herxing? I only tested positive for Babs, but I will be doing a Igenex test in 2 weeks for Lyme.
I am going to the neurologist on 3/15. This was the second opinion from my MRI. The lesions thing still scares me allot. I asked Dr. P about this. He explained to me that the lesions are not caused by the Babesia. He stated "A causes B and B can cause C, but A doesn't cause C." Do you follow that? I took it to mean that the Lyme or Babesia doesn't actually cause the lesions, it's the damage it does to your CNS that does. Is that what you guys think?
I haven't felt horrible for that long, it was only within the past 3-4 months that I noticed the fatigue, etc. The all over twitching started mid January and hasn't stopped. Since I haven't ever found a tick I don't know how long I have had this. With the lesions, does this indicate that I have had this for awhile. I know someone said previously that the Lyme bacteria can travel to your brain within a day or so. But these twitches and lesions are really frightening me. I still can't get past the diagnosis of MS either. I don't know what would be worse at this point.

I have brain lesions too - about 9 punctate UBO's about 1 to 3 mm in diameter, one as much as 5 mm in diameter, many of us do. I wonder if mine have changed after a year and a half of treatment.
Had I left it up to the nuerologist I'd surely be dead now, so be careful with them. Mine told me lyme is rare and you don't have it. I ended up seeing a shrink to reduce stress...who's the nut?
Three lifesaving months of heavy doxy (the nuero told me a waste) and I was heading down the long road to recovery. The positive babs test is a clear indicator that lyme is probable. The lesions nearly confims and if you improve on doxy like I did you are certain - who needs the test results. I suggest save your Igenex money and let your body tell you.
I am still sero negative for lyme, sure a band here and there....pretty probable stuff...but the tick bite history, symptoms and response to abx lock the diagnosis in. Oh year, positive babs results too. I just started that combo too.
That is a lot of abx...zith, mepron and doxy. Be sure they are monitoring your liver enzymes weekly with that load. Take it easy on other toxins....caffeine, alcohol...the good stuff...your liver is going to be busy.
Don't fret too much about the lesions. I fretted big time about the confusion and slurred speech and stuff, with that resolved I've nearly forgotten about the lesions.
Good luck, Mike

Welcome, and continue to ask questions here, but you might want to continue to read and educate yourself on Babasia and Lyme.
I too have lesions..brain, spinal cord, along with a MS diagnosis, and am treating the cause of my MS with antibiotics..
I'm on Mino, Zith, and Mepron... it took me approximently 2-3 weeks (after adding Zith and Mepron) to have my first herx, but we're all different.
I've experienced some pretty yucky days (same type of yucky stuff I had with what made the lesions in the past), but it's what we need to experience.
For example: I have experienced really all of my MS days all over again,,,except it only lasts hours rather than days or weeks. It's politely called herxing in order to heal!
Many here suggest you document what you are feeling; I found it to be good advice.
Did Lymetoo or Betty send you the Newbie links? Very good reading there..it's a lot to comprehend, but I find it continues to keep me sane!
Being scared and concerned I think is more common than not...
so, try to hang in there!
very best to you, tory

My brain lesions (they didn't mention how many) are "tiny nodular punctate nonenhancing TR hyperintensities present in the frontal white matter bilaterally although somewhat more prominent on the right. This is a nonspecific finding." Demyelinating disease is a consideration although the distribution of lesions is not typical.
The neuro who checked the MRI and wrote up his findings actually mentioned migraine headache disorder, vascular causes as well as spirochetal disorders. So I guess that could be the Lyme.
Dr. P doesn't want to see me back for 4 weeks, when I am done with the meds. Do you think I should see him sooner with all the abx's I am on? He didn't say anything about checking my liver. He said he wants to run bloodwork, the Igenex stuff and some others 14 days into this. I have all the slips, so he is probably checking the liver enzymes. I just don't remember him mentioning this.
I just know I am very jumpy today and the twitching is out of control. It hasn't been this bad for a week or two now. Maybe this is how the herxing starts.....

I herxed 28 days after starting Mepron/Biaxin/Doxy. Biaxin is in the same family as Zith. He added Omnicef and Probenecid a little while after that and I herxed immediately.
I also take artemisia, but did before I started the medications. My liver is checked monthly.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2000. I believe that the Lyme was causing many of those symptoms. Remember, MS is a "catch all" for several factors which are occurring in the body. For me, demyelination, optic neuritis, lesions, numbness, etc.
My MS MD was happy to keep me on one of the ABC therapies, do MRIs every 6 months, pump me with steroids if there was an exacerbation and never get to the cause....LYME! What type of life is this?
I am very happy with my LLMD and my Lyme/ Babesia protocol. Do not get me wrong - it is difficult and today happens to be a good day. There have been many protocols, much work and herxing while feeling tormeneted by these illnesses.
I see an improvement overall. Keep up the good work. You have begun an amazing journey.

I agree with Tory....log and weigh your symptoms. I am lousy at keeping a log but it sure would help. Michelle M. gave me the best advise when I first herxed and was depressed about the slow progress over a year ago:
She suggests assessing your progress monthly and you'll see results, assess too often and you'll be depressed.
I still have horrible days when I just want to crawl into bed. Its reflecting on how far I've come that gets me through.
Here is too feeling a little better AGAIN today!
