Has anyone had the experience of gaining weight while on Rifampin. I have been on this drug for just over a month and my weight is going up. My recent thyroid tests were normal so not sure what is doing this. My food intake has not changed.
Thanks.

Yes, I've been on Rifampin for two months and have gained. It's very discouraging. My thyroid tests are fine, too.

Thanks for your reply. Have you gained very much? This is upsetting to me because I have an eating disorder, and I do not deal well with ANY increases in my weight. I will go off this drug if is is adding the pounds on.

If it is any help to you, I have been on Rifampin for over a month and have not noticed any difference in my weight. It is hard for me imagine that a drug literally makes you gain weight. I mean, it may increase your appetite which if you eat more than of course you'll gain weight. But physiologically speaking I'm not so sure the weight just comes on. I am also on IV Doxy and I'm noticing that it DOES make me more hungry and it's hard not to be eating all the time. I'd welcome others thoughts on this issue....more scientific as to why or if Rifampin can cause someone to gain weight.

I would call the pharmacist to see if Rifampin (or any other medication you are taking) can make you gain weight...
Dont forget Lyme disease can make a person gain weight....
and in my experience as a lyme patient sometimes the symptoms I am expereincing change not only in degree but in the type of symptoms.

I had switced from Lyrica to Neurotin for sleep. I have noticed weight gain from the Neurotin, that is one of the side effects. Are you on this med? I am switching back to Lyrica, don't like this Posts: 315 | From USA | Registered: May 2005
