Depends on the type of bartonella that you have. If you have BLO (Bartonella like organism), Doxy does not help and I don't think zithro does either. I saw a CD with a presentation by Dr. B. and he stated that 8-12 weeks levoflaxoxin seems to be the cure but other abx that work for cat scratch does not work. See Dr. B's guidelines. Terry

Why can't you be on Rifampin now? Is there an interactionn between Rifampin and CoQ10 that I'm not aware of (I'm on Rifampin now and have been trying to check every potential interaction).
I'm still recovering a year later from tendon problems from Levaquin. I'd never go back on that again.
Zith is sometimes used for pediatric bartonella. It's one of the meds my LLMD and I were considering for me for Bart, but we decided to try Rifampin but just monitor my liver every week.

Hi again,
Yes, Rifampin interacts with a lot. There's a pharmacist at my local retail pharmacy who is reasonably knowledgeable about tick-borne diseases. When I told her I was starting Rifampin, she said it interacts with everything, and I might have to adjust my dosages of other medications.
There's a good website called www.drugdigest.com where you can check drug interactions. I use it all the time.

be careful, the literature says rifampin will lower the absorption/potency of mepron quite a bit.
Rifabutin, an analogue of rifampin, has a sl better profile but is supposedly quite expensive.

Polar, my daughter has bartonella H&Q. She takes a supplement that contains CoQ10, but we haven't seen an interaction with the zith and rifampin. She has been on that combo for about 14 months now. She can only pulse every other day.
We are testing now for babesia, and we may change the rifampin out for mepron.
