Hello everyone!

I am putting out this information to get feedback on how many people would be interested in attending an information seminar/conference here in Southwest Indiana. My LLMD volunteered to speak and talk with Lyme patients. He said he would not do it for just ten people but if I could get 50 or more, he would do it. This was his suggestion!! I saw him just last week and asked him if he was taking anymore Lyme patients. He said he has a very hard time saying no to anyone!

I will do the ``leg/foot work'' as far as setting up motel accommodations and getting room at motel for him to do this. It would probably be held on a Saturday and I am hoping for the month of May. That could depend on availability of the motel rooms, and therefore, it might even be in June.

I just need to get feed back on how many people would be interested in attending something like this. There are always so many things going on in Washington, D.C. or New York, or New Jersey and I know many Midwestern folks just cannot make it there.

This is not just for Midwestern folks - it is open to anyone and everyone!

After I get a good idea that there are enough interested, then I will talk with doc and check motels and get a date. In addition, I promise, I will do my best to get the best rates possible.

There are several options on motels: I can get a motel that has lots of places to eat with very little drive time (down the road - one to two minutes - without leaving the immediate area) but not immediately off the interstate, however, it is on the main road off the interstate (just on opposite side of town).
OR
I can get motels right off the interstate and many places to eat within 5 minutes or less drive time.

We do have a riverboat casino but I know that motel is very expensive. However, it is in minimal drive time for anyone interested. Evansville is not a small town but not a big one either. You can pretty much drive from one side of town to the other in 20 minutes or less (even with the stoplights)!!

We have a zoo, but it is not easy for people who have difficulty walking, (hilly), although they do have a tram. We have a museum and we have the LST 325 that can be toured (WWII ship). Therefore, there are many other things to do before and after conference/seminar, (I have not decided what to call it just yet.)

I would like to know your preferences also:
1. Between breakfast and lunch?

2. Between lunch and dinner?
OR
3. Sign in after breakfast, with time to meet each other, then have doc speak, break for lunch and have doc speak some more? (This is the one I prefer because I know some of us cannot tolerate sitting for long periods of time.)

So, if you are interested, please reply to post and then give me preferences.

I would set up a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights for people that might be traveling further.

By having a sign in after breakfast, that would give people who live closer time to drive in that morning.

My doc is a very good doc and used to have a lyme clinic. He has cut his family practice down to half days, as he has a research clinic and also does work in Malasia (me lyme brain thinks that is the right country).

He is compassionate and caring. And he just blew me over when he suggested this!

Thanks! CJ

P.S. I am posting this in the following topics also: Medical, General, Off Topic, and Activism. So, if you think you have seen it already, it is possible that you have!

Hi,

This is a wonderful idea. I would vote for option #3 (sign in after breakfast and having the seminars broke up into 2 sessions).

What would the topic(s) be?

As far as hotels, a medium priced, nice hotel would be great. I like the idea of having a variety of places to eat close by, too.

Kayda

cj,

would your llmd be volunteering his time, so the costs would be for ROOM RENTAL, any snacks, beverages, and cost of any handout materials?

i agree w/kay on things.

what a great doc you have, and i think you are talking about MALAYSIA. please tell him thank you for his generosoity to speak!! he's quite a guy.

i also suggest you contact your state's SUPPORT GROUP LEADERS found on left hand side, etc. to spread the word.

cj, thanks for organizing it for all who can attend. [group hug] [kiss] [group hug]

Depending on the date I would be very interested in attending from Louisville. Depending on the length of seminar will decide whether I stay one night.

Where (town) does your doc practice?

Pam

Betty: yes my doc is volunteering his time for this.

map1131: You would have a very short drive to Evansville!! I-64 all the way to the by-pass around Evansville. There is no specific date set as yet. As soon as I know I have enough people interested, we will set it in stone! Ok, not stone, but I am aiming for early May and definitely on a Saturday.

Thanks for your interest and suggestions!!

Option #3 seems to be the favorite of everyone so far.
Not sure topics as of yet but I will check with doc on that one.
I think this will so great to do! Say some prayers (if you pray) and/or keep your fingers/toes crossed that we get enough people interested.
I am waiting to see how it goes over the weekend.

CJ, why not check with some other states near you what they have done for their program; what worked and did not work?

make it easy on you/llmd! i know someone from iowa held one in SW IOWA perhaps sioux city area, but i was not privy to any details of it since there is no love between the person who set this up and me.

you could email IMANURSE, go to directory at top under new post, and send her a private message asking for info on their conference last year.

good luck and hoping more respond this weekend.

STAY AWAY FRO MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!! [Wink]

I would attend -- all the way from Sunny CA

When ---Isn't this about an hour from Chicago

Wow we could invite some neurologists
Once they get on the band wagon - we may have a some partners in helping us rally for more support

I scheduled o conferences for a living
still haven't figured out how to get it all done.

any way
how about some video taping too ---- some news coverage ??? !!!

and I could just go on and on
