Not sure if I should post here, but my 14 year old has now had 3 bouts of mono all since the beginning of the school year.
Question - is it actually recurring ? or is it still ongoing ?
Each blood test has returned an 'active' mono result.
After researching, it doesn't sound like it can reoccur, however, she does feel better, but then crashes again.
I've been thinking of testing her for Lyme re: other symptoms, but I don't think I had Lyme when I delivered, however, I had complications with her delivery and looking back the possibility could be there.
At any rate, does anyone know if EBV indicates the possibility of Lyme ?
Does that make sense ? Thanks Diane

How are your daughter's tonsils? The reason I ask is I had a bad case of mono many years ago. I had doctors that treated me, saw my tonsils and never said anything.
Two years later I was still dragging around. I was living in Mexico and got sick. As part of my routine check up, the doctor looked at my tonsils and told me they were bad. What do you mean? I asked her. The fine physicians in the U.S. hadn't said anything.
A couple of months later, I came down with a severe case of tonsilitis. After I recovered, I had them removed.
For the first time in three years, I felt normal. No tender lymph glands. No lack of energy. No feeling like I was just about to come down with something.
Check her tonsils. Do you see huge craters? Those holes catch food, bacteria, etc. and can be the source of a constant low grade infection.
And, yes, you can keep relapsing until the body finds a way to get on top of the virus.

thanks parisa, the doctor said because she has such small tonils the swelling isn't alot... (whatever that means)
but she did say that she will probably give me a referral to an ENT to see what they think.. but she wanted to consult with the ID doctor (look out) first to see if we should possibly treat her, maybe with prednisone ??
I'm waiting to ear back.
And maybe a doctor who knows tonsils (ENT) will tell me more when I get in to see them.
i guess i was just worried, while knowing EBV is a virus and Lyme is bacteria - wasn't sure if there was a connection or not.
thanks diane
