My doc said the EM rash MUST expand and often will show up in several places on the body at different times to be considered for lyme.

He said if you have a small EM rash that does not expand, then it probably is an allergic reaction.

I am highly allergic to bees, wasps, and asps. I was hospitalized for an asp sting (not the snake, but something similar like a wasp). I had a red area and then I started getting red streaks down my neck. Off to ER I go. But wait, I digress, that's just what happens if I get bitten by an insect.

I did have an EM rash in 2005 and it matches the pictures of the EM rashes perfectly. It did go away after a few days but it did not expand. Itched like crazy tho. Was oily looking.

I thought the EM rash did not expand but he says I'm wrong.

So what's up?

mine did, stopped, then got bigger again. and I had 10 other ones all over. only the first one was a little itchy.

The word "MUST" just shouldn't be used in context with Lyme.

If is of any signficance, "migrans" in the the erythema migrams rash name means "migrating" or moving.

If you do get a rash, always use a pen or marker to mark the outer edge. Then check a while later to see if the edge has moved.

Also, when the bacteria spreads throughout the body, you can end up with these multiple rashes of similar appearance. It takes a while for this to happen though. (i THINK we are talking many many days to weeks for this to occur).

I had 3 of the ring like rashes, all within a couple of inches of each other. Two did not expand, but the other one grew to four times it's original size in about as many days.

None of these appeared until after I had started treatment with Samento! I showed them to my PCP duck, and even she said "it's probably from a tick bite".
