My 14 yr. old son has had some diarrhea for the last three days and I was wondering if this is a result of him herxing or because we added 1500 mgs of Magnesium each day starting last week.
Has anyone experienced this? I think he might be herxing. Any opinions on this? Thanks.

Thanks. I'll try the 2x per day with the Magnesium ( I was also thinking about doing that).Yes, my son does take probiotics (Theralac).

Magnesium can cause diarrhea for sure. Try backing off the dose for a few days and see if it helps calm things down. I would keep up the probiotics though! Good luck!

I am thinking that I read that it is the magnesium that your body can't absorb is what causes the runs. So, you may want to research what kinds of magnesium are the easiest for the body to absorb.
I take a low dose (50mg/pill) magnesium (myocalm p.m.), but I take 8 of them each day. Since it is spread out it seems to help.
The other kind I used to take is called ionic fizz. With it, I learned that if I put the powder in cold water it gave me the runs. But when I mixed it in my tea (warm/hot water), it absorbed better and there were no troubles at the other end.

This particular magnesium has several of the forms that are the easiest for the gut to absorb, magnesium citrate, taurinate, glycinate.

Thanks everyone. I give my son Magnesium Glycinate as I read earlier on this website that it is easily absorbed. I cut the doseage to 2x's day and it seems to have helped.

I also use the "Source Naturals Ultra-Mag" Seems to have the widest variety of magnesium types. Helps keep me "regular". Other brands of magnesium don't seem to help me as much.
