One day I may be able to help someone else, but today I'm back to asking for your help. I have an appt. with a LLMD April 10 (if I survive that long but in the meantime..
I have had symptoms off and on since October, two negative ELISAs, a clinical diagnosis of Lyme from a neuro, and a borderline positive for babesia. Before the babesia came back, I begged my GP to put me on doxy-300 mg/day )at 100 lbs).I started doxy, Synthroid and Vitamin D. 4 days later, bab result came back.
Saw an ID (ok, I know better now), who started me on mepron/zith and told me to stop the doxy. Unfortunately, I was pronounced "treated" after one week.
So I put myself right back on the doxy. I have had ups and downs all month, like everyone else. Today is my 22nd day on either doxy or zith. Last night and all day today I have felt particularly horrible: Trembly, nauseated, joint pain, very tired and feel feverish although of course my temp. is a whopping 98.2
I have read week 4 of treatment for bb is rough. Does this count for my week 4? Is it the babs stuff sneering at me?
Since I really have no one medical to check in with, thought I would see if anyone had any words of wisdom. I am assuming everyone would suggest I keep on the doxy until April 10?
Thanks as always Kris

I'd keep up with the doxy till the LLMD appt. I have babs along with Lyme and my LLMD has me on doxy (and other meds, too, including mepron and biaxin, which is similar to zith). Would the ID doc give you enough mepron and zith to last till the LLMD appt.? If so, I'd take it along with the doxy unless it causes too much discomfort.

thanks for the response. The ID folks talked to some big wig parasitologist at NIH last night and he assured them I was "treated". so, no more meds for me. (I did try) Thanks again Kris

uhm, if that ID contracts this disease himself, I would expect a different treatment regimen...

Three months doxy helped me tremendously with nuero symptoms. Maybe I had ehrlichiosis too but it made a big difference. I treated lyme for well over a year and only recently started babs treatment due to positive babs, persistently high eosinophil counts and symptoms that did not resolve while most others did.
Be wary of ID doctors. I saw a "lyme literate?" one who was certain I had lyme disease at one time but when I improved little on 1-month IV Rocephin he said its not active. He then said he is weary of coinfections especially in non-immuno suppressed people. The whole thing made no sense to me.
So I added him to my list of many practitioners that will one day, when I get around to it and feel well enough, to share with them my story of improvement. Despite their recommendations otherwise.
Hang in there and good luck with your llmd!
