I've read here that beta sitosterol is good for detox. I have just received a bottle from Source Naturals that's called "Mega Strength" and contains 375 mg beta sitosterol.

The label recommends taking one tablet just before or with a meal. Wouldn't you take more than the label recommendation, to use it as a detoxifier, as with cholestyramine?

Does anyone have experience with this? Can you recommend a dosage? Gigi? I recall you listed it in your detox recommendations.

Thanks.

Peggy

I used to take 2 x 100 mg of Betasitosterol, 30 min. before meals. Make sure you counter constipation if that's what it does for you. I just used to take more magnesium, etc. I also alternated mop up agents - never one and the same thing all the time. Chlorella definitely has immense nutritional benefits besides being a good mop up. Another one is Destroxin - which I think works great and I prefer today to Betasitosterol. It's a matter of trying

None of these agents detox intracellularly. They basically mop up what you mobilize with other agents.

Take care.

I would take 2 twice a day before meals, as recommended by my LLMD.

Lalalu--that's a total of 400 mg, if I'm understanding you correctly. Mine is 375 mg per pill. I wonder if it would be better to cut the pill in half and take half twice a day? Do you know? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Peggy

Not all Betasitosterols are alike. They are produced in different ways and may not be equal in bioavailable form. Some are produced by emulsification and freeze drying, like the Pharmax one I used to take. Since they affect the cholesterol level in various ways, you want to do the right thing. We do need cholesterol. Your doctor or whoever recommended your type to you should help you clear the questions.

I only took a higher amount than as indicated after a serious heavy metal or other parasite, die-offs, etc. or cleanse that really set the toxins in motion. You do want to catch them in your gut. The gut is loaded with neurons and I was always alerted to get the stuff out of my body as quickly as possible, before anything could be reabsorbed, etc. etc. Then we would really be on an unhappy merry-go-round. For this very reason, I did a lot of colonics as well.
But many people seem to frown on that too. Be this as it may. It got me superbly well years ago to this very day.

Take care.

Hi Gigi,

Actually it wasn't a doctor whose recommendation I took--it was yours. My LLMD is hours away and I need detox stuff quickly. I'll talk to him about it when I see him, but that won't be for another 3 weeks. Meanwhile, finding someone local who is really knowledgeable about these things has been an exercise in futility.

Since I've been housebound for 4 months, I haven't been in a position to beat the bushes and interview practitioners--it's all had to be by phone. So Lymenet has been a lifesaver. That, and my own research.

I'm sure the Pharmax is better than the beta sitosterol I ordered, but I learned that too late. I'm on my 7th day of a Pharmax HLC Intensive, and that's when I learned the difference between Pharmax and everything else I've taken. I've been on high doses of good-quality probiotics for months, and they don't hold a candle to the Pharmax I'm taking now. I can hardly believe the difference.

I've been doing a lot of soaking in hot baths, and just ordered some Destroxin. Someone today has recommended coffee enemas to me--I was resistant as I'm overly sensitive to caffeine. But after reading the info he sent me, I may take the plunge. Do you have an opinion about coffee enemas?

Thanks. Your posts have helped me greatly.

Peggy

The brand of Beta - Sit I used was Pharmax. I also do coffee enemas 1-2 times a week. My doc says to be careful to not overstress the adrenals by doing too many.

I also was told by a friend (her nutritionist) to add a spoon of organic molasses to help in not depleting important minerals and such.

I get a boost from them...perhaps it is the caffeine but I do not think so...it does not feel like that caffeine buzz. I, too, am sensitive to caffeine.

Good luck.

Yesterday was my first day on the beta sitosterol. I also did a castor oil pack and soaked in a hot bath to make myself sweat, but I've already been doing those things. I've also started a new magnesium complex, after reading a lot about it here.

I had a terrible headache the rest of the day, which is very unusual for me--and I still have it. I don't know if it's the beta sit--I'd hoped it would help calm things down, but if instead it's helping move things out and I temporarily feel worse, I can live with that.

The Destroxin I ordered yesterday should be here in a couple of days--we'll see how that goes. It's all a big experiment, isn't it?
