Went to a new LLMD and was given Biaxin 500mg and Plaquenil 200mg 2x/day. I started off for a week on 1x and felt great, all my lyme symptoms were pretty much gone. I went up to 2x/day and on the third day started getting stomach issues - by day 4 I was up all night with nausea/stomach pains really bad, almost intolerable. I stopped for a couple of days and will be restarting.

I emailed my LLMD and he said this is due to the lyme, but I'm not sure I believe that. I have a terrible time with meds and my stomach. any of you had experiences w/this combo that you could share? is there anything I can do to help me tolerate the combo? I have been eating yogurt and also will be taking Prilosec to see if that helps.

I wonder if at this point after three months of TRYING to treat the lyme sufficiently without success (I can't reach the med levels as I always have issues) I should push for IV. I'm not sure how long I can stand being sick. Plus I'm depressed as I can't seem to tolerate the treatments to get well!!!

I took Plaquenil for 3 months, and it was my experience that the plaquenil really was hard on my stomach/GI system. I took it only once daily, but always was careful to take it with food. I found that yogurt did not provide enough probiotic, so took a good supplement twice a day, which did help.

I don't have experience with Biaxin. Good luck!

Are you taking your acidophilis and yogurt 2 hrs after the abx's?
You should be 2 hrs before or after.

Treepatrol I haven't taken acidophilus (do you mean tablets), but I do take the yogurt once a day inbetween the doses...don't think it's enough though. He wants me to add Prilosec.

Yogurt on it's own is not enough by a long shot.

You need a good probiotic, which is not what Prilosec is. I would suggest, like the others, that you take your med with food and also add a good probiotic.

There are several good probiotics out there. I, like many others here, use Theralac, and I can't say enough good things about it. www.theralac.com

Hubby is just finishing up that 40 day rotation of Clind/Plaq and then Biaxin/Plaq. It does each combo for ten days at a time. It seems is stomach is doing okay. He does take Acidolphilos twice a day. Also takes charcoal before he goes to bed, to help "clean out the toxins".

The Biaxin has been the hardest on him though, imho. I think he's had more die off on it.

Good luck!

when I was low on money, I only took the homemade yogurt while on antibiotics. I did this for about 3-4 weeks.

I had SUCH a sore stomach when I stopped probiotics for 3-4 weeks and only did the yogurt.

Maybe that is why your stomach is sore?

I use Udo's Super 8 probiotic. It has 30 billion per cap.

This is what works for me, I have tried a few others, they did not work for me, were not as effective as the Super 8.
