I'm wondering if 100 mg twice a day of doxy is ok for low body weight (113 lb)?
Has it worked for any of you at that dose? I did a search here and someone did mention that they thought that low body weight required a lesser dose
I'm supposed to be taking double that and my LLMD probably wouldn't approve going down.
I've lost 15 pounds since starting antibiotics last summer and I'm tired of having an upset stomach and loss of appetite.
ten years ago I took doxy for 6 months at this low dose and got well. But my lyme wasn't neurological then.

You might ask your dr to try the Doryx brand of doxy. I think it's easier on the stomach.
You DO eat when you take the doxy, right?
Also, it could be that now babesia is rearing its ugly head now that some of the lyme is being knocked down. [babesia causes anorexia and nausea, for starters]
As for your question, do you think you could take 300 mg of doxy? 200 is pretty low in my non-medical opinion.
Be sure to speak to your LLMD.

Dear Marz,
I took 300mg a day of doxy at 117lbs. I am now down to 111 and am sure would still
take the same dosage. I believe that others have mentioned that doxy has to be at least 300mg to cross the blood-brain barrier.
I took mine with food and 8 oz of water...and stay out of the sun.
Hugs,

For some reason I have 100 mg/50 lbs as a rule of thumb in my head. I could be mistaken.

the tablets are a LOT easier than the capsuls. In case you have the capsuls.
I couldn't get real treatment for 3 years so used bird doxycycline tablets to keep meningitis at bay. I think they were stronger and the filler used was better on my stomack. With the others, especially the capsuls I had to slowly walk around for 20 minutes every morning so I had a better chance of not throwing them up and having to retake them an hour or so later... Whew... I don't envy you, it's rough...

Thanks Lymetoo, for mentioning babesia. My LLMD wanted to test again for coinfections last week and she mentioned my lack of improvement could be due to babesia.
I reminded her that I tested (Igenex)negative for all coinfections (was positive for Lyme)probably because I have a European strain.
I need a new PCP and so am seeing an internist tomorrow who is recommended by an LLMD so hope he might be able to order a test so it would at least be covered by insurance. I'm probably being unrealistic about that.
Meanwhile, I'm going to take the doxy 100 mg 3 times a day with a meal.
