Ok, I feel everything with lyme is game for subject, so here goes. This is gross so forgive me.

I have gotten diahhrea the last week. I go after getting up in the morning, after lunch, after dinner, mainly after eating.

The stools are not formed, but rather mushy and fill up the toliet. My poor bottom is so raw I feel like hamburger.

My lower abdomen is sore on the outside near the hip bones and I'm nauseous, sick to my stomach. Seems everything goes straight through me.

I'd rather be constipated!!! I don't want to take over the counter stuff like Immodium, but I sure would like to stop this stuff.

Is this another dang lyme thing or what???

I recommend Theralac which is a powerful probiotic supplement that replaces "healthy" bacteria into your intestinal tract.

I had the same problems with the diarrhea after I ate ANYTHING and had read about Theralac here. Before I knew I had ulcers and a hiatal hernia, I had already ordered the Theralac. All the GI doc prescribed for my other problems was generic prescription strength Prilosec.

You can order Theralac at www.Theralac.com. They also sell an enzyme product I am thinking of purchasing. I take one tablet of Theralac at night but the directions give advice on how much to take....starting from daily to weekly to monthly. I no longer have the "red bottom" which is truly a pain in the a**!

Hope this helps!
Janet

Hi doses of C and magnesium can also contribute to this problem.

and I recently learned that it can actually be a sign of constipation. Sometimes, the bowel is obstructed by fecal mater that what gets by ends up being diarreah. Not sure it is the likely case, but apparently it happens.

Probiotics.
Parasites?
C. Dificile?

If you're not taking probiotics, that is certainly the culprit. Yeast overgrowth can do that also, so I'd recommend following the anti-yeast diet and getting a good probiotic.

Theralac gets good reviews, but I just take a supplement I can get at Whole Foods - Udo's Super 8 (30 billion CFUs) - one in the mid-afternoon and one just before bed with an add-on of S. boulardii (3 billion CFUs).

To stop my diarrhea, though, I had to take the Udo's and the S. boulardii 2-3 times daily until I stabilized. Then I backed down to my current maintenance dosage.

Do NOT take Imodium. Your body is flushing out junk and your colon is a major dumping ground for your lymph system. Stop the flushing and you're allowing stuff to remain too long in the body.

If you have to, get Preparation H or a prescription from your LLMD to help with the raw backside. Sit in the tub for a few minutes after your bathroom trip - it helps to cleanse without abrading your skin.

I ended up aggravating old hemorrhoids and got a neat little Rx for Proctofoam that saved my sanity. Ask for help - I'm sure something can be done to relieve the discomfort.

If you are on antibiotics, and have diarrhea, and it smells awful and/or you've got significant abdominal cramps, you need to ask your doctor to test you for C. difficile.

Desitin or other cremes used on babies bottoms for diaper rash can help with the soreness that you are experiencing.

Would this bowel obstruction be in the small or large bowel?

If you do have C. difficile, get it taken care of with meds (Flagyl is the usual, I think) and then prevent it with the S. boulardii going forward once you're off the meds.

I had terrible IBS at onset of disease which I think was HME Ehrlichiosis because it went away with Doxycycline!!!!!!!!!!!!

But for some pepole certain abx can cause problems like this rather than solve them!!!
Like Zithromax can cause gut problems for many people- and having to go suddenly-

IF you are ON abx and are having diarhhea you need to be VERY careful because c.difficle is an abx related diarrhea which can kill you in 3 days. We had a local guy die of that years back now-his FIRST week on abx- he was very late late stage ALS and so so weak and near death already-

ANYWAY there is a probioic which literally eats c. difficile

it is called

saccharomyces boulardii

and oyu can get it at health food stores in teh refrigerated cases or special order it if they don't stock it. But HIV+/AIDS people use it so it is uusually stocked- thank god for those patients- they have done research for us re abx related diarrhea- and probiotics*)!*)!
You can also, ANYONE, take it PROPHYLACTICALLY to prevent c. difficle

HOWEVER

nothing is perfect and you can actually if you overdo it get a saccharomyces Boulardii infection!!!! systemic s.b!!!! Which can be really really really BAD too!!!

So don't overdo *anything*.
Everything in balance*)!*)!!*)

Take care guys-
Best wishes,
Sarah

What the above posters are describing is Florastor (Saccharomyces boulardii lyo)it is a beneficial yeast which colonizes the colon to crowd out the clostridium.

One pill twice daily is used to prevent c.difficile, while 2 pills twice daily is used to help treat an active infection.

You can order it here:
http://www.florastor.com/

You need to get a Rx for a stool culture for c.difficile toxins A & B and culture. It is best to test 3 days in a row and only do the test if you have active diarrhea or it can be false negative for c.difficile.

It wouldn't hurt to get a full stool work-up for parasites, WBC's bacteria etc.

if you do end up with c.diff, the first line treatment is typically Flagyl for 2 weeks, if you catch it early. The best available antibiotic for c.diff is oral vancomycin. IV Vanco does not work for c.diff, although IV flagyl does. Some GI's are now using Xifaxin to treat it, and some use Alinia.

Whenever any of you are on any antibiotic you must take probiotics such as theralac etc and VSL # 3 is another good one, to prevent c.diff.
When you read your papers that come with the antibiotics it will say (risk of pseudomembranous colitis) that is antibiotic associated diarrhea, and c.diff is the bacteria involved. It can become serious if not treated do to dehydration and the toxins eating the colon. If you get a fever or severely ill, go to the ER so they can do a CT scan of the abdomen, and another stool test etc.

You have to stop all other antibiotics if you have c.diff, and likely for quite a long time.
The bacteria produce spores that are very hard to get rid of, and relapses are very common in c.diff.

Hopefully it is not c.diff, as it could be a stomach virus, or other bacteria etc.

Hope that helps!
Get a stool test!
