Hi,
So I transported it from San Fran to Toronto by plane and then a long wait in a Frio insulin cooling bag. It turns out insulin only has to be kept at 30C. www.frious.com
This doesn't necessarily mean that the bag was that warm, but it weren't that cold, in my estimation.
I had my first shot yesterday. Is there any chance that it's still good? How do I get more? In Canada, it's possible that it can be obtained, but your MD has to apply because the drug has limited access, for some reason.
Someone said there is a pharmacy in Switzerland that carries it? Also, what about that mail order animal source?
Geez. I thought I was going to avoid this by bringing it home myself.
With best wishes,
canbravelyme.

A pharmacist could probably answer this question. You don't have to give details. Just ask your temp question.

Penicillin is a lot more durable than your insulin. HOT would be a problem, but WARM for a little while should not hurt it. Keeping it cold increases the storage life.
The main thing that will start to happen with a liquid penicillin preparation is that the solids will begin to settle to the bottom. It could be difficult to shake a prefilled syringe enough to get it back into suspension, and the solids would tend to clog the needle.
Looking at the shipping information for the penicillins at a livestock supply...
Which, by the way, are NOT the same and may include some added ingredients appropriate for livestock use but not humans...
They ship it on ice, but state it is normal for it to be warm by the time it arrives maybe 4 or 5 days later. They say it does not hurt it. Just refrigerate it again on arrival.
Again, not quite the same product, but it does give some indications of the shipping considerations.
Of course ask a pharmacist, this is just my non-professional opinion!

I appreciate the input; I think I'll stay away from the vet. Bicillin.
I called the pharmacist at Walgreen's, and she thought that it was wrecked. The Bicillin has to be kept between 2-8C.
If anyone knows definitively if there is a way to test the Bicillin I have, that would be great. I don't want to risk at this point that I am using less effective meds.

What temperature is it stored at after it is injected? After it is injected, it is stored in the muscle and takes about 3 weeks to completely disolve and be absorbed.
It says STORE between 2c and 8c, and it has an expiration date that is should be good until if kept at that temperature. A pharmacist probably MUST answer that it is wrecked though.
Personally, I would use some Bicillin that got a little warm briefly long before giving any consideration to using a livestock penicillin.
Alot of animal meds are actually just people meds that are purchased from the pharmas and labeled for the particular animal use.
These penicillins, though are engineered and manufactured specifically for livestock needs and use in a less than sanitary farm environment... quite different.
...Just to clarify that a little more.

If you call the manufacturer for info, I believe you'll be told that Bicillin is good for up to 7 days at room temp. So if it was room temp for a day and then you refrigerated it, it's probably still fine.
I says this, bec I did the same thing once myself, and I'm certain that this is what I was told. But to be sure, you should call the manufacturer yourself.

I just tried King, and they're closed (Good Friday). How come we never get the day off???
I've ordered 2 more shots, which I'll pick up on Monday in the US (nearby).
Part of the issue is for me that these are my first doses; so I'm not sure where the herx is, and I want to make sure all is exactly perfect in my "experiment"...
So I won't be getting rid of those other vaccines just yet; I'll check with King early next week.
Thanks again for all the input; esp. the info on animal meds: I was sorely tempted, because often my K9 has Flagyl which is identical to mine, just a lot more expensive. Yes, I'll stay away from the animal meds.

Or how about this:
The only effect I have so far from the Bicillin shot I received yesterday, is that I'm very sleepy. Does that sound familiar to any of you after a definitely potent shot?
Sorry for the 3 posts, but I'm sure you all are familiar with the deal going on over here.
Best,

I had the same problem back in September....getting Bicillin sent from NY to Ireland.I know the panic you are in, especially with the cost too!
But,I phoned King back then, and they said, as others have just stated, that it will still be ok at 30 degs for up to 7 days, and at 40 degs for up to 2 days. Also, they said when it's not good anymore it usually turns yellowish and clumpy!
Hope this sets your mind at ease
