I got dxd w/lyme late Dec. Trying to treat w/meds since Jan but not been very successful. Tolerated Biaxin/Plaq for 20 days then couldn't take it anymore. For a month I took amoxy, working my way up to 3g and couldn't tolerate it, my dr. wanted me to stay on 2g but isn't that too low of a dose to kill lyme? I'm retrying Biaxin alone but it's not going so well at even 1x/day (500mg).

Since taking Biaxin my legs are killing me...would Advil help w/that?

I am seeing Dr. P. in CT on Aug 30 but not sure what to do till then. My current dr is Dr. D in Boston, MA - been trying to reach him but haven't been able to. He said I should be able to tolerate the Biaxin/Plaq but there's no way.

For someone like me, that's so hard to take meds, is there any hope at all? Will I have to take IV and even after that you have to take oral meds right?

I feel like throwing in the towel. I know I'm being somewhat of a baby as I haven't been sick that long compared to many of you (Oct 06 were my first symptoms) but as I can't treat I'm getting scared it's progressing! As I've been treating consistently though not at high levels, am I keeping the lyme in check?

thanks everyone.

Hiya,

When you say you can't tolerate the meds, what specifically do you mean?

Best,

My stomach always gets irritated so much that I have to stop. Terrible nausea, stomach pains, reflux, you name it. Not so bad w/amoxy, but even then I couldn't reach the 3g treatment level. Dr. D. believes my issue w/the B/P is herxing but I'm not sure. My stomach ALWAYS acts up like this even when I take meds for a sinus infection, etc. My body hates meds, my mom is just like me...it sucks.

What kind of pain are you experiencing in your legs? If it's muscle pain the advil might help but if it's nerve pain then it probably won't help.

I have been seeing Dr P in CT for about a year but I didnt realize that the waiting list for new patients was so long. Aug 30 is over 4 months away which probably seems like an eternity! I wonder if they have any cancellations if you can get in there sooner?

Twinklette,
I was wondering if by chance you are also taking some sort of statin drug. I was prescribed every statin drug on the market and each one caused horrendous leg pain.

Even after taking my last statin pill, I had leg pain for a few months that was different than my "normal" muscle/skeletal pain that I experience every day anyway.

The new pain put me over the top in my ability to stand the pain. I was a ball of writhing pain, crying and getting hysterical sometimes. It interfered with my sleep a LOT and I finally had some emotional meltdown. Had to get on new sleep meds and that helped more than anything.

I don't want to have to have that kind of pain again. Afterwards, I did some research about statin drugs and one "serious" side effect was leg pain. It was in the fine print. My doctor said he had had complaints with the statins. My pharmacist said that he had people calling in panic mode and were refusing to take the meds, while not even telling their docs.

Just thought I'd throw this into the mix.

Best wishes for pain free days,
Janet

Hi,

I was wondering if you have Dr. D's email address.

I treated with him in years past and I always got a prompt and helpful reply by emailing him.

Sorry I no longer have his email address myself.

I seee Dr. P been for almost 4 yars. Never had stomach truble until Trtracycline 1000 2X day. He said could take Pepcid AC for my stomach issues. Felt like I swallowed glass.

Tums and the like interfere with abx absorbtion but he said pepcid didn't. It worked.

I take it an hour after abx. When you get in contact with Dr. D. ask him if you czan try Pepcid.
