Are you kidding? Since starting abx I've been sleeping from about 9 or 10pm to 10am. Hubby has to get our little boy ready and take him to school, something I've *always* done, even on my worst days.
Cold used to keep me awake without fail, but now that doesn't even work. I can sleep anywhere now, even sitting up on the couch.
I slept 11 hours last night and I'm ready for a nap (it's 1:15). My brain is going full speed today but my body is sinking quickly.
My detox tea seems to help a little, so it seems like I might have this unavoidable fatigue as part of a herx. I don't know. I can't find two sources that list the same symptoms for herx, so who knows if it's herx or what.
All I know is I was LESS tired before abx. Less nauseated, less headachey, less moody, less everything.
Oh, and the fact that I've cut caffiene from my diet has probably made a big difference. What I wouldn't give for a hershey's bar and a grande carmel macchiato!
Someone *did* say one of the best treatments for herxing was REST.

It seems like some can sleep a lot and some can't sleep - both extremes usually mean fatigue.
Excessive sleepiness can be a sign of sleep apnea. Dangerous if left untreated. Terry

Yes, Yes, Yes!! I am always so very tired. It doesn't seem to matter whether I get a lot of sleep, a little bit of sleep, deep sleep or light sleep. I am always, always tired.
I have to lie down at least once per day and most days, more than once. Some days, I am so tired that despite sleeping the night before, I sleep most of the day away.
Any kind of stress sucks me dry.
I don't get anything done. I can't wrap my mind around anything long enough to accomplish it. It is so frustrating seeing all that I need to do not getting done. Some of it is very important and that further frustrates and discourages me.
My social life is nill. I can't be around people very long before I space out. It's like people suck what little energy I have right out of me.
I have also gotten worse since starting abx. Some days I wonder if I have some other disease that is fatal and I am slowly fading away.
I only hope that despite all this, there is some hope on the horizon.

as least for @ 1 year, while in the midst of the herx's and treatments
LLMD said it is because the inflammation in the brain causes less blood flow, less blood flow = fatigue
now i am just kinda tired sometimes
so there is hope
but also: Sleep is essential. It is when your body heals. Lyme patients must get adequate sleep for the entirety of our lives. Sleep is one of the elements of the "cure".

I totally understand. I am so glad yet so sad other people know what I am going through. I am on partial disability. I am supposed to work 24 hours a week. I am reallyyyyyyy struggling to meet this. What I hate so much is seeing other people doing things I want to do. It really hurts to be on the outside looking in. I have had times that I was so tired I could not even sit down and pay bills. People wonder why I go to bed at 7 and can barely get up the next day. They have no idea. I live alone so I really struggle with every day tasks like making a bed. Cutting grass - NO WAY!!!! Most days I am so tired I struggle to take a shower. I have to sit down 5 to 10 minutes after just to rest. Some days I miss my meds because I sleep all day. Sleep is a major issue for me. I can take 2 Ambien, pain meds and Advil and still NOT sleep. I think the fatique is one of my top 2 complaints. I have been so fatiqued I have considered going to sleep and never waking up. I can not imagine feeling like this for the rest of my life. My life line is my neice. I love her more than anything on earth so I fight each day for her. I'm glad God is in control of my life, I can't handle it myself.

SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP! The doc who prescribes my sleep meds told me to sleep whenever I can and take naps during the day if I need to. He said if I could sleep 18 our of 24 hours if would be good. I could NEVER work right now.
Sleep is the time when our bodies rest and heal. Many of us aren't getting restorative sleep and it may be necessary to have a sleep study done to check on that....sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome interfere with sleep and constant pain from moving in the bed can disturb sleep.
I think we need to just accept the fact that our bodies and brains need rest. Even with all the sleep, we will not be able to function as we used to pre-Lyme. There are many losses and things we just cannot do.
Not wanting to be around people is an effect of our brains and bodies being overly sensitive to stimulation....sensory overload. That is why many of us have horrible times in stores where we feel assaulted by lights and noise and movement, etc.
I hang on to the words of those who have been down this road and are now getting their lives back through treatment. We all need to know that there is hope for us. Thanks to those who remind us of this!
Janet

You sure do. If I push myself to hard by the physical or by pushing myself to stay awake to long I pay dearly.

Hubby is always exhausted and sleepy.
He snores really loudly, then gets quieter and quieter, slower and slower. I think he quits breathing for a bit. Sure sounds that way. I have just started noticing this in the last few months.
I guess I need to read up on sleep apnea. I had no idea it was dangerous?

I think sometimes my name should be Rip Van Ripple...I so empathize with you.
I do need to sleep anywhere from 9-12 hours to look & feel my best. This has been since first infected 20 years ago. Even in the 9 years of remmission.
The treatments have not touched my need for so much sleep. I used to get depressed about sleeping so much of my life away but have become at peace with this aspect for some reason. I try to enjoy the time I am up.
And maybe I also feel grateful after hearing how so many lyme patients can't sleep at all dispite their fatigue.
Daytime sleepiness is still a problem most days. Still searching for a solution for this.
I do cherrish my alert days more now & the days when I am not as sleepy.
Off 4 D big sleep. Dana
