I'm back on malarone/biaxcin. I took 1 malarone and the next day felt awful. Can you herx this quickly?

I felt horrible every day I took the malarone/zith last time. Anyone ever feel OK on it?

Yes, when I first had lyme I herxed almost immediately. With each relapse it was always the same thing. Within twenty four hours I'd have an increase in symptoms and then it would either get better or even out.

I recently began 1000mg clarithromycin, 2000mg ammoxicillan and 2 tsps bismuth daily. I am taking this for the H.P. bacteria and it is the first abx I have taken since my lyme diagnosis 19 mths ago.

It only took 20 mins for my neck to get stiff and swollen in the glands. Then my entire body ached like the flu. It was night time so I just went to bed. That was on Friday. The following day I had increased joint pain (my only remaining lyme symptom) and slept off and on all day. Each day, the joint pain got worse until today, one week later. This is the first morning I awoke without pain. I hope the herx is over!

I herxed within hours. I would suspect the Biaxin hit you harder than the malarone did....but that's just a guess. Biaxin is great stuff!

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Glad to hear you're back on malarone, sounded like you might need it.

Malarone and biaxin both made me herx quickly - and the first few days were rough. I felt horrible for quite some time, but it improved.

Eventually, I did feel ok on malarone - it took a few months.

Just prior to malarone, I had 6 months on mepron (+ macrolides), then switched to malarone and zith for 6 months.

By the last 2 months on malarone and zith, I was feeling pretty darn good.

Hang in there!

Actually, today I felt pretty good-day 3-herx lasted 2 days. I'm hoping this means it's a light load of babs-or that they are almost gone. I still have night sweats though-wondering if they are from something else.

I still have foot pain-does anyone else get this from babs instead of bart? (already did 3 months of rifampin/zith /doxy). My acupuncturist thinks it's from poor kidney pulse.

Keep going until all symptoms are gone for at least 2 months. Babs is not easily eradicated.

I sometimes wonder if it's a herx or if it's just a reaction to taking a new and strong medication. I reacted strongly to the malarone but find that I'm getting more used it after about a week and don't feel as wiped out. Herx? or just my body getting accustomed to it?
