Just have started treatment for babesia and have some ?'s.
1. What is the therapeutic dose for Mepron? Looking back at previous post it was stated that people should be on 2tsp 2x daily. It seems that some are on 1tsp 2x daily. Just wondering what has worked for people.
2. Can Mepron be taken with Doxy and Mino? Mepron efficacy is suggested to be decreased with tetracyclin group but is this specific to Doxy and Mino?
I had some more ?'s but the ole lyme brain is not firing correctly right now so I will just start with these.

Some Dr's feel that Mepron is worthless without Zith and Artemisinin. The only study that was done with it for Babs was with Zith, and even then the results were only about 70% positive for getting rid of it.

I thought I read with Malarone, which is mepron plus something else, that the dosage can differ. For example, if you are going somewhere where there is a lot of malaria, you might take 1 tablet of Malarone 1 or 2 x a day. But if you already have malaria, the dosage is higher: 2 pills 2x a day. So it may depend on how severe the symptoms are.
Have you googled for the physician's desk reference information? usually you can find the recommended dosages that way. Carol

How much artemisia are you taking? How did you decide to pulse 3 months on, one off?

DolphinLady, I can't remember how much, it's the herb, and I take three pills per day. On the bottle it says not to take more than three months, so I asked about it, and the doc thought it was a good idea to get off it for a month.
Biaxin can also be used with Mepron ... it's in the same family as Zithromax.

Hi Doomer. I think one teaspoon two to three time daily is often prescribed, but it depends on the case.
Make sure you eat something fatty when you take the Mepron (peanut butter, cheese, etc.) or it will not be absorbed properly.
It is my understanding Mepron needs to be take in conjunction with Zithromax, Biaxin, or Ketek. I took Mepron and Zithromax. I suggest talking to your doctor about this.
I think you should probably have your blood checked at least once a month.

I have the book on babesia from Dr. Schaller and have been treated twice with Mepron under Dr. B's care..and by the way still have Babesia..
The dose is 1 tsp (750mg/per 5mL) twice to three times a day..In the book it said people seem to do better with 5 months of treatment over 4 months, b/c it takes 4 mths for the Red blood Cells to completely replace themselves, so going the extra month apparently helps alot and makes sure it gets any remaining little parasites....
Yes you have to take Zithromax or Biaxin with it and my dr also recommended Artemisinin 100mg, 3 x a day...However Dr. Zhang's Artemesia is (400mg) per caps, is 4-5x stronger than the regular Artemisinin (as it is not the same thing) and he says that people can eliminate Babesia with 80 days of treatment..but I believe that is also in conjunction with other herbs and garlic..ie - herbs to modulate immune system and bring down inflammation, increase cirulation and kill off Lyme.
Yes I think I had my liver checked every 2-4 wks..can't remember exactly now..acutally I think it was every 3 wks....Hope this helps.

What other options to Mepron and Malarone? Would Quinine or Bactrim be a good treatment with Zithromax?
I've ordered the Dr. Zhang art. It was very expensive, but I feel from research it looks to be a complete compound.
I do take Zithromax 500mg/day with Mepron 1tsp 2x daily. I was wondering what has been an effective dose of Mepron to get rid of babesia for everyone else.
I also take artemisinin from Research Allergy Group (i think) supposed to take 300mg 2x daily but I can only tolerate half that amount. I find the artemisinin to be really powerful and powerful at causing nausea. I dose it 4 days on and 7 days off. Interesting info regarding Zhangs Art - I wonder if it is better tolerated? Does anyone else have problems tolerating Art and higher doses?
I also have read where some take 600mg of Zithromax. The tablet I take comes in 500mg, so how do you get 600mg? Perhaps there is a 600mg tablet?

I am on the same regimen, half way through month 2. I built the art dosage up over a few months on my own before starting Mepron/Zith and am now tolerating 300 mg a day. I recently added a cephalosporin back in (spectracef) as lyme symptoms were returning.
Yes, 600 mg zith is available. My doc says they prescribe if insurance gives a hard time about 500 mg, which apparently some insureres think of as 5 and done z-pack.
I was hoping babs treatment would resolve my stiff crickedy neck but not yet.
