Sorry to sing the old refrain: "I think I'm either herxing or getting worse."
I've increased my amoxy to 3 times a day (875 mg. x 3). Now I'm getting that weird fat tongue feeling and lump in throat swallowing thing with tense neck muscles.
I've gotten this feeling before (at the beginning before treatment 1 1/2 years ago), so it happens with and without abx.
Of course, I worry about the abx being a contributing factor, but I don't have any other funny stuff going on other than anxiety bursts.
Swallowing just feels scarey; like my tongue is too large. The tongue doesn't look swollen or anything; just feels weird.
I'm supposed to gradually increase the amount of abx, but I'm too weirded out just yet.
This darn illness feels so endless. The tongue thing is up there with fear from air hunger. Luckily air hunger isn't at issue right now! Just scarey tongue stuff...
Helpful advice?

I used to get a swollen, tight-feeling tongue which I could feel all the way to it's base in my throat, tightening in my neck, and also the air hunger. Not being able to take in full breaths. I don't get it much anymore. At the time I was taking Cholestyramine and doing a lot of detox (it was before I had Lyme dx) and I always associated the tightening tongue/neck with toxin overload. Not sure why, but that is what I have come to associate it with, for me. Too many toxins.
Stephen Buhner, an herbalist with a book on Lyme (Healing Lyme) says Sarsaparilla helps bind endotoxins in the bloodstream and reduce herxing. I wonder if that would be helpful to you. I have no idea but might be worth looking into. I take it now but those symptoms went away before I started those herbs.

I believe for me the swelling tongue feeling like I will choke to death
If I close my mouth sensation....was one of my scariest symptoms.
I had that sensation prior to dx. with Lyme and while Not on antibx.
The air-hunger was such when I had that feeling
I ended up in the ER...for me, a waste of time
With a Rx for xanax for anxiety!
I know that I wasn't having an allergic reaction..no meds on board.
May want to run that by your LLMD just to be safe..
Make sure it is NOT an allergic reaction.
Hope this passes for you soon.
Scary as heck!

Wise, do you have teeth indentions on the sides of your tongue? My tongue has been swelling off and on a long time now. I don't have trouble swallowing or air hunger feeling.
Some days I have no indentions in tongue and other days my tongue is quite ill. I have tongue sx besides swelling.

Thanks for the responses! I got a fast LLMD appointment and had to drive during flooding in this area -- took a long while to get there!
Geneal -- Yes, I just hate this symptom! LLMD made sure that the tongue thing wasn't allergic-looking. He couldn't see candida stuff or swelling. Suggested I just try to ride it out as I try to increase the abx slowly.
map -- I do have teeth imprints on the sides of my tongue. The tip of my tongue wants to press against my teeth. The back of my tongue just feels uncertain about swallowing. My neck muscles by my collarbone are tight as are my pectoral muscles. Are these like your other symptoms?
Luna -- Sasparilla tea? tincture? I'll try it! I do wonder if this is a detox symptom. I also wonder if it is the IX nerve wigging out my muscles in the laryngeal area too. Also could be part of silent GERD? My gut has been pretty pressured.
I'm writing this off as a scarey Lyme quandry -- but that doesn't make it go away....
Anyway, thank you all for your responses. Sorry for the delay in reply!
Blessings,
