Hi all, During my consult with my LLMD today, he decided to add Larium to my cocktail of meds (250mgs injected Rochephin, 500mgs Biaxin, 250mgs Flagyl and Diflucan as needed). He mentioned the psych side affects but said they are rare.
I told him I am alone alot since my husband travels out of town for work. He wanted my friends and family members to be aware of any depression or other psych problems but that is hard when they aren't here with me.
I am a bit scared to try this. I am also on Lexapro (10mgs) per day for anxiety. He knows all this.
He also told me to stop using the sauna for three weeks as he thinks it might be making me herx too much. I will miss the sauna.
I know there has been talk here about Larium and it's terrible side effects. Some people have had bad stuff happen and others said they were fine on it.
He is having me start with 1/2 a pill once per week for two weeks then if everything is ok to up it to one pill once per week. So maybe starting slow will help to prevent the side affects.

Hi, I will be taking my fourth dose of lariam on saturday (every 5 days). I was very hesitent to take it but my llmd assured me that out of the hundreds of patients he prescribed it for the only side effects any of them had complained of were vivid dreams and perhaps some nausea.
After my first dose I experienced some lightheadedness and fatigue for a day. The second dose nothing. The third dose made me feel like I was herxing, air hunger, cog fog, fatigue.
it seems like the night sweats are more intense since starting lariam but the headaches are definetly fewer and less intense. I did have a few weird dreams but I still feel pretty sane. No depressed feelings.
so at least from my experince it hasn't been a hard drug to handle, hopefully you will have a similar experience. Now we just have to wait and see how effective it ends up being.

If it is of any comfort, I have been on lariam for about 3 months now. No negative effects. I think it has actually wiped out the refractory babesia.. I have stoped now for 3 weeks with no sign of babesia relapse.
Mepron/malarone was able to supress the babesia but not get rid of it.
