What is the longest anyone out there has been on Lairum for the Babs? I will be on it for about 6 months soon and I would like to get off. I'm normally a pretty good natured person but its really getting me down lately.

My Igenex FSH tests are finally coming up negative (yes I know that doesn't mean I have deifnitely FSH tests- I am hopeful. I still don't feel great though - So I wonder do you think the Larium is just holding the Babs down and that's why my FSH is negative?

Any input would be great!

Hides,
Sorry I can't answer your questions but I will be starting Lariam this week and it has me scared silly. I have read all the terrible stories about the side affects and am wondering if you have had any.

You say you are normally good natured but it is getting you down. Do you mean you are frustrated with lack of progress on the treatment or do you mean the med is affecting your emotions?

BTW, my LLMD said the longest a person should be on Lariam is 6 months so it sounds like you are at the limit and should be getting off it.

I was on Lariam for 4 months (1 pill every 5 days) + doxy. My LLMD told me that few people can tolerate lariam beyond 6 months.

If you are not 100% sympton free, you might want to talk to your doctor about changing to another babesia drug combination.

I was on Lariam for a month while traveling in India as a malraria prophylactic and at that time had been thoroughly treated for Babs. Still, I was anxious as to whether I would herx at all with it or have a change. It was like taking a vitamin pill, side effects for me at all, no Herxes, no changes!!! Was fine*)!*!!

Thanks for all your great replies. Sick and tired- I meant my emotions were somewhat off because of the meds. I get more weepy and I am more down than usual. No BIG effects though. I have 3 kids that keep me active and busy despite all my probalems with the Lyme and Babs. I exercise a lot and try to eat right and I know that helps a lot.

I pray that the Babs is gone because I don't know what else I can have for the Babs. I have been on everything except the Clindamycin and Quinine (which I heard has terrible side effects). As of this month I have been on Mepron for a total of 22 months. I have been on the Zithro and Art with it. Then also the Plaquenil and the Mino. My FSH tests are coming out neg when they once were all positive so I hope it has died down. I just don't want to have a major relapse like I once did when I went off the Mepron after the first 5 months- because that's when the symptoms came out the msot.

Some drs say clindy/Q has greater efficacy than mepron/zith.

I took many many rounds of clindy/Q. When I finally followed that with artemisinin and zith, I got rid of babesia.

I don't know if the art and zith would have done it by themselves, or if clindy/q was what knocked down most of the babs.

I herxed like mad, but the only side effects were the ear-ringing from the quinine. IF that happens, you just lower the dosage.

Hi

I have been on lariam for 7 months now, it was very hard at first but then I got used to it, no more horrible nightmares or insomia and mood swings. My Dr told me it's ok to take it for up to 1 year, do you take 1 pill a week?

Can anyone tell me if they experienced increased achiness with Lariam?

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but I stopped after 3-4 doses because of too much pain and stiffness in general, and especially in my hands, which I'd never had before.

Thanks,

ash

Just had to say- not re Lariam but when I took mepron & zith and also artemisia it Herxed my hands like crazy- I had terrible arthritis there and still had some residual- and the Babs tx restored my hands to normal!!! Babs often affects hands, feet and top of head!!! So I would take that to be a Babs Herx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
