I was on cipro and found it effective against bart. Levaquin also worked well for me until my insurance denied coverage.

I was clinically treated for Bartonella with Levaquin and a proton pump inhibitor, Nexium. I took the Nexium 1hr. prior to taking the Levaquin and this provided wonderful tolerance to the antibiotic. No GI problems at all and I felt much better over all.

I stayed on both meds for 4 months and finished 7 weeks ago. I feel like a new person and firmly believed Bart was knocked out of me.

I must caution that a possible side effect of taking Levaquin for this long is tendon inflammation of major muscle groups. For me, the tendon pain came from my foot and it sure was painful but i did not want to come off this mix of meds if i complained.

I silently suffered (not recommended) and iced my foot.. Along w/stretching my calfs, this would help relieve the pain.

After finishing the 4month treatment of the above meds for Bartonella, my foot is feeling 90% better and so am I

If only my doctors could stop the progression of my poly neuropathy that i have had for 20+ years, life would be more enjoyable, even with my damn chronic Lyme.

Hope floats~

My daughter is on this combination of cipro and biaxin. She was on rifampin at first, but it made her sleepy. A few months ago her doctor took her off biaxin and tried the rifampin again, and it caused severe stomach issues. As soon as she got back on the biaxin with the cipro she improved. I think it is helping, but it has been a long time. She has been in treatment for 3 years and is also on IV doxy.

Biaxin alone is an awesome drug and as well as being an LD killer can also kill milder cases of Bart on its own. My Bart is gone after being on Biaxin. I am sure the combo will absolutely get rid of the Bart.
Take care.
