We just discovered that my daughter has congenital Lyme. She was recently diagnosed with PDD-NOS (autistic). She has a large vocabulary but can't make sentences without prompting.

In January she spiked a very high fever that lasted two days until the side of her face swelled up. I felt a lump inside her cheek under the huge swelling. At that point, I brought her to the ER. They said mumps (to scare us cuz we have never vaccinated) even though the swelling was no where near where it is for mumps. They gave her IV rocephin (for mumps? Not) and gave her tylenol for her fever that wasn't even that high anymore.

The next day she was up and running around like a miracle and the swelling was a LOT better. She saw a pediatrician the next day and he said no way was it mumps. He agreed that it must have been from a fall she had a few days before... We were guessing she had hurt herself worse than we had thought?

She was given a shot of rocephin and then the next day she saw her regular pediatrician (by chance a visit to talk about allergy testing had been scheduled) and got another shot.

By the end of the week the lump in her cheek (no idea what it was) was almost gone and the swelling was gone.

Could this swelling been from Lyme in some way? I've never had this symptom as an adult with late stage neuro lyme. What could the lump have been?

It looks like her face is a little swollen today but we feel no lumps...

Didn't the doctors say anything?

Was it in the right place to be the parotid gland?

I know someone with autoimmune disease who gets an inflamed parotid (saliva) gland sometimes.

I got facial swelling from Lyme/Babs because it affected my thyroid, don't know if this is related or not to your daughter-

I got massive swelling above my eyes where my eyelids stuck out by an inch-2 inches sometimes and I looked monstrous. My husband (then, now ex and this is partly why) said he was embarassed to be seen with me. Only my daughter treated me the same. In stores people treated me rudely quite often and teenage boys who often tend to look at me nicely made fun of me and called me "that thing" outside of Rite Aid. It was awful. Gave me a lot of compassion for people who have things like this more often than I- mine lasted on and off for about a year- the swelling was mainly above my eyes but my whole body got puffy/edema. My features were puffy not defined anymore. I just looked like a different person when I didn't look like a monster. It would cause my eyes to weep and interfered with my vision because the puffiness went down over my eyes. I just had these little weeping slits when it was bad- god, I am so lucky to be so well!!! Thank god for IV Rocephin-
that was a nightmare-

Don't know if same thing but Lyme can afect thyroid which can cause swelling-
Best wishes,
Sarah
