HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU

Folks, I am petrified. My doctor has me off of amoxillin after a year. It was just keeping me sort of level. Now i have put up a immune response to it and he has put me on Doxy, just 50mg/2per day as my brain if flooded with bacteria.

Issue: Last time i went on a different abx, i went to the mental ward for 3 days, and dont want to do that again.

I took one of the Doxy, and got a tremendous headache, and stopped as i was going on vacation.

Dreadfully, i have to start them again. I really dont want to, but have too.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE ON DOXY, DID YOU GET THE MIGRAINES, AND HOW LONG DID THEY LAST?
I do have midrin, and it helped a bit.

WHAT OTHER SIDE EFFECTS DID YOU HAVE?

Thank you, Lemonhead

Hi Lemonhead.

I'm so sorry that Doxy is back on your doorstep.

'Specially with summer coming on.

What you're experiencing is pretty typical. Doxy is an excellent blood-brain barrier crosser. It's also known to cause brain inflammation.

Ask if you might try some Diamox, which reduces pressure in your head. My LLMD says it works for about 50% of his patients.

Do you have any support? Someone to hang with you during the roughest part? Since you KNOW what's causing it, I would sure hate to see you wind up in the hospital again.

Amox is really so much easier, but doubtless that comes with a price (not as effective at killing).

Ask for some samples of some vasodilators such as Relpax or Imitrex to help with the headaches. They open up cerebral blood flow. Use sparingly.

I hate Doxy too, but it sure is good stuff. Good luck - I hope the worst passes quickly and you see some improvement.

Hugs,

Michelle

Hi Lemonhead

Sorry to hear about this but I am just trying to get over one of the worst migraines I have ever had in my life and it came on 5 days after starting Doxy 200 mg every other day. Yesterday I felt and looked like death, I felt so sick I couldn't eat until 8 pm and the pain moved to the right side. Today its still there.

To be honest I cannot carry on like this and think I am going to switch to something gentler like Cumanda and Samento gradually working up.

How are you feeling now? What I cannot understand is that 2 years ago I took Doxy for over 6 months without too many problems, maybe I have become too sensitive to it?

Lil

Sorry to report- I caved every time I tried to take the Doxy-literally thought I was going to die. Worst symptoms were the head issues. Minocycline was worse.

I have tried three times to do Doxy-no go.

Doxy (or any cycline) can increase your intracranial pressure. My kids can't take Doxy because of this.

I see you are in Texas. Be very careful of the sun. I got sun poisoning on my hand through the car window when I was wearing sunscreen.

Sorry I can't answer about the headaches ... I get neuro symptoms, but not headaches.

I've been on doxy for 5 months. I had a lot of headaches the first few months and I am more prone to getting headaches now but I do go days without a headache.

Fact is, even when not on doxy I can have periods of headaches but they have gotten worse since I've been on doxy, especially the first few months. If you can get past the beginning headaches they may be fewer and less intense.
