Hi all,

I've got a question for those who have done IV Rocephin. I started a little over a month ago, doing 2 grams/day 7 days/week. I had a (typical, for me) herx around day 7 for about 4 days. I started to feel better, and then, since the beginning of week 3, I've been feeling horrible. Basically most of my old symptoms plus some new ones have appeared, and I've never had this long of a herx (previously I was on orals for 9 weeks with a no-antibiotic break in between).

My question is--has anyone else had a similar experience w/ Rocephin worsening symptoms for an extended period? I definitely feel worse than I did before I started the IV. I stopped all abx yesterday to see if some symptoms will clear up. But so far I'm definitely not in love with Rocephin [Smile]

Thanks,
Emily

I have not taken Rocephin but that is because I dont want to!

Rochepin seems to help lymies out symptom wise but it is not a good ABX to treat lyme with. Bryan Rosner has a good list of the good and bad ABX to take for lyme, rocephin is in the bad list... [shake]

If you do take Rocephin, you will need to take a cyst buster at the same time, or immediately afterward.

Rocephin and drugs in that class create cysts, which need to then be treated.

Welcome to Lymenet! [Smile]

Hi Emily,

I did 6 weeks Rocephin back in September/October 2005. I hated it too. Felt great for first four days, then started herxing like crazy, which didn't ease until after I stopped (due to Gallstones). I remember feeling like death warmed up - flulike, migraines, all old symptoms and some new ones. Had very bad Leucopenia (low WBC) from it too.So I have nothing good to say about it either....and unfortunately was not prescribed a cyst buster at that time.

Hope things settle down for you on it.
Elaine
