I just ran out of Clarythrymicin ER(the generic for Biaxin). There is apparenlty a lawsuit between the generic company and the company that makes Biaxin and I was given Biaxin this time instead of Clary.
This is my second day and I'm really not doing well. Has anyone else noticed such a difference when moving from the generic to the name brand of an ABX?

I'm wondering if your "not doing well" is more of a herx meaning the Biaxin is better? Or not doing well in that it isn't affecting the lyme like the generic did? I'm on the generic, but last time it was Biaxin XL, both times it completely removed my symptoms, at least for now. I did relapse and have suffered a lot over a decade. I think your body is telling you something, but what?

I just asked out LLMD about the differences at our last visit. He said some people don't notice a difference, but others feel the name brand is a bit stronger.

When the generic came out I switched to it and felt worse. It didn't seem to work as well as Biaxin. I mentioned this to my LLMD. He had me describe what happened and then told me a number of patients had reported the same thing. He recommended I stick with Biaxin.
Feeling worse could be a herx due to stronger drugs. hats

Generic manufacturers are only required to ensure equivalence for the active ingredient in the medication. A number of other things could be different for example the delivery method (pill coating) which could cause more or less adsorption of the active ingredient and therefore a different result. Only the inventor of the medication is required to perform any clinical trials in order to determine the expected end result from a medication. I'll always take a brand name drug over a generic if I can.
