Hey Djf,
I was diagnosed with Borderline Chiari One Malformation a few years ago by MRI. X-rays also showed scoliosis that I was not really aware of until then.
When I did research on this back then, I found many overlapping symptoms of this condition that also could be explained by Lyme and company. Especially the finding of inflammation by infection.
At that time, my docs and I decided that my case was not destructive enough to do any further intervention, besides continued TBD treatments.
The exact cause of CM is unknown. Many scientists believe that the condition is usually the result of a structural defect that occurs during fetal development. CMs may also be genetic -- some research shows the condition may appear in more than one family member. Other possible causes include exposure to harmful substances, lack of proper vitamins or nutrients in the mother's diet during fetal development, injury, infection, or aging.
My best, Melanie

my sister had one. After a few months on treatment no problem. She still hasn't had MRI to confirm gone but symptoms caued by it are gone.
She had had a MRI few years before lyme DX and no chairi, then after lyme dx found chairi on MRI.

This is interesting. I have lyme and my Mom had surgical treatment for Chiari I malformation at Johns Hopkins almost 2 years ago.
About a year later, she changed dramatically. Forgetful, didn't care about appearance, worsened tremors, depression. Simply an entirely different person.
She was put on antidepressants and they seemed to help for a very short time, then she became violently ill - serious vomiting.
After getting those psych meds out of her system, she is herself again and it still mystifies me as to what on earth happened.
In the midst of it, I thought maybe she had lyme. She did not test positive (although the test was not done at Igenex or MDL).
