I fear Levaquin's side effects and tendon issues. The stories of patients being permanently damaged are very scary and make this drug not a viable option IMO.
Is there an effective alternative or combo that works? If so, what is the recommended duration of treatment?
Thanks!

My son is on rifampin/zith and doxy. His brother sill do this after his babs treatment. I forget the dosages.
Do a "search" of rifampin and you will see it is a good protocol for bart. Tough going for many on it, though.

Dear Myco,
I started on levaquin for bart, but it gave me insomnia...really bad.
Switched to rifampin. I take 600mg of this with 1600 mg of bactrim ds daily.
The zithromax, which I had been on for four months prior gave me some ear ringing.
Stopped zithromax and like magic the ear ringing went away.
Good luck.
Hugs,
Geneal

Isn't Biaxin used for Bart? I think that's what I was given Biaxin for. 4 months of it made the pain in my feet stop.

Hi, My LLMD prescribes Rifampin alone (very well known/respected LLMD-pres of ILADS) He said Rifampin should not be prescribed with any other drug as it can be hard on the liver and he will run blood tests for kidney/liver function every 3-4 weeks. Also, he has had me on Biaxin for 6 months (miracle drug) he says not many LLMD's know Biaxin is not just a great LD killer but also kills Bart and HME as well. I was retested recently through Igenex and Bart was now negative after being on Biaxin. Take care.
